We are so so happy to have been awarded a TOP 20 award for the West Midlands by www.carehome.co.uk. We take great pride in our work at Newstead. Our focus is promoting person centred care in a warm and friendly environment by well trained and motivated staff, to enable residents to live their lives. We also score 10 out of 10 in reviews on carehome.co.uk. It is wonderful to have this recognition. Congratulations to all the staff at Newstead. What a fantastic team we have!
Happy birthdays!
We have been celebrating lots of residents birthdays – each in their own way, but always with a fabulous cake!
For Olive’s 91st birthday she decided she wanted to watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks instead of having a party. But whilst enjoying her delicious fruity sponge birthday cake.
For Dot’s 80th birthday we had an afternoon tea with some lovely scones with jam and cream. (plus cake!) We also played a fun quiz. The first round was all about Dot, then a couple on 1943, finishing with some general knowledge.
Terry also celebrated his 90th birthday with a wonderful chocolate cake with rich ganache icing.
Thank you to our kitchen team for always pulling out the stops to make birthdays super special and personal to each resident.
Other celebrations
Peter was delighted to win our monthly skittles tournament. A hard fought win after a tie break finish!
Everyone was so delighted to welcome Caroline back to our home after her maternity leave. Caroline is our Lifestyle and Wellbeing lead, back to support Rachel. And also, bringing back with her Mollie the dog. Mollie is a firm favourite at Newstead for cuddles and pet therapy.
We are very excited to announce our Coronation Garden party will be held here on the 8th of May, 2-4pm. With wonderful live music, lots of fun games with prizes and a lovely afternoon tea. We look forward to seeing you all there to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. As part of our party prep, we have been making Coronation crowns to wear on the day. We have also been planting in our garden. Check out our video here. https://www.facebook.com/100057054866714/videos/548782517436017
For National Haiku Poetry day we studied some Haiku’s and then wrote our own. Here are some examples. We love how different each one is.
Supporting Age UK
Our talented knitters have been making knitted bobble hats for Innocent Smoothies. This is part of their Big Knit Campaign raising funds for Age UK. For every drink they sell with a bobble hat on, Innocent donate 25p to Age UK. Our residents worked really hard on these and even made a special card to go with them. We have loved doing this! Onto our next knitting project!
