A huge thank you to Cindy Hawkins for her contributions to Astley and we wish her the best of luck with her next steps. We have welcomed our new home manager Emma White, who has been going through the handover process with Cindy and getting to know our staffing team and residents.
In Emma’s words “I am extremely proud to join the team at Astley Hall. I am committed to creating a warm, welcoming, compassionate and safe home where every resident is treated with dignity, respect and receives excellent standards of person-centred care. I look forward to meeting and getting to know residents' families and the wider Astley community, so we can work hand in hand together to create some exciting new opportunities and experiences for residents.”

On World Earth Day we launched our 2026 Gardening Club. Thank you to the volunteers from AKW who helped us plant our hanging baskets and pots. We also had a big spruce up of our raised beds, with lots of weeding ready for planting. It is great to have such accessible gardening for our green fingered residents. There was a real sense of achievement all round. We then took some residents to Cooks Garden Centre to select bedding plants.
We celebrated St George’s Day with a very English lunch – residents chose from fish and chips or a ploughman’s, followed by strawberry Victoria sponge. Thank you to Kim for the entertainment. Lots of singing and dancing. He is a firm favourite here bringing us wonderful entertainment each month. He has really got to know each resident and their favourite songs and fills the afternoons with warmth and happiness.
Thank you to everyone for supporting our Dementia UK Tea party. Delicious cakes and bakes made by our residents, cheffing team and residents’ families. We are baking again at the end of May for National Biscuit Day.
Coming up .....
We are armchair travelling to Italy, looking at the sights, learning some Italian phrases and enjoying pasta, pizza and gelato.
Our gents are looking forward to the Football World Cup and we are having a sweepstake.
For Ascot Ladies Day, we are having a posh picnic. Residents are baking treats for this and our ladies will be glamming up with a bit of a pamper and some gorgeous hats for the occasion. Singer Daz is coming in to entertain us.
We are having a 1960’s themed day for Global Beatles Day and singer Matt Clay is joining us for the celebrations.
We are hoping to be out in the garden as much as possible, especially for our Father’s Day celebrations and National Cream Tea Day.
