Heritage Manor is a small, privately owned group of care homes that has been operating since 1995. We own and operate our own homes in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, with our head office located in Kempsey, just outside Worcester. We also operate a further two sites, namely Nowton Court in Bury St Edmunds and Abberton Manor near Colchester.
Our care ethos
We believe that care should be “person centred”. Whilst some interpret this as meaning individualised care, we view “person centred care” as being care which enhances a person’s daily life, and care which steps back from being overly prescriptive. Critical to such care is the firm establishment of balanced relationships between our staff and our residents, based on four VIPS principles (based on the work of Professor Dawn Booker, Asociaiton of Dementia Studies)
Values
We value our residents and staff as individuals. Our management ethos focuses on an open culture which encourages everyone to be themselves, where we encourage input and criticism from everyone involved in the home, from residents, their friends and relatives and our staff.
Individuals
We all have different abilities, hopes, fears, strengths and weaknesses. The care we provide must be based on an understanding of the person as an individual, which takes time, effort and patience. This understanding must also be flexible to change, as needs change.
Perspective
Communication is a 2-way interaction requiring active expression and a willing listener. We need to empathise and see life from our residents’ own perspectives. We must be willing to avoid always erring on the side of caution doing what is easiest and safest for us as management and staff, and focus instead on that which increases a person’s occupation and happiness.
