Spring news and plans for the early summer

Our Gardening Group projects are getting underway. Most recently, we all re-potted the miniature sunflowers residents had grown from seed. One of our residents Joyce is having a competition with her daughter to see who will grow the best sunflower. Residents have been out in the garden admiring all the widflowers starting to bloom and prepping our raised beds ready for planting.

And it was a lovely trip out for resident Terry and our lifestyle and wellbeing lead Kerry to St Peter’s Garden Centre. Terry was keen to look at the plants and chose bulbs and seeds for our next gardening activities. St Peter's is one of our favourite destinations for inspiration, shopping and a visit to their café.

Our patchwork project that we started early Spring, is now a double bedspread – every resident has contributed in their own way and we have decided to raffle it off to raise some money for our Residents Fund.

There were winners at our Grand National event. Plus, more song and dance with singers Ian Hardman and Vanessa Butcher.

We also armchair travelled to Paris looking at the sights, brushing upon our best Franglais and enjoying French patisserie. And in early May we marked David Attenborough’s Centenary with some awe-inspiring animal documentaries.

We are continuing our seated Zumba classes every Monday. And we have the students from Kings School every Tuesday and the children from Kempsey Primary every Wednesday, through their summer terms.

We have enjoyed messy fun making papier mâché lanterns and our bakers have been whipping up some delicious treats in our residents’ kitchen. Often lots of residents want to get involved in these hands-on activities, so extra helpers for our lifestyle team are very welcome. Thank you to our carers and management team and all our volunteers for pitching in and for your ongoing support.

Coming up ...

We are having a coffee afternoon fundraiser for Dementia UK on 22nd May. This charity is very close to our hearts.

In June, our bakers are having classic dessert month, baking everything from lemon meringue pie, to summer pudding and strawberry cheesecakes.

We are having Garden Games Day on the 19th with Pimm’s and activities through the month, including stone painting, flower arranging and making suncatchers, will all take place outside – weather dependent. We are also having a coffee morning in the garden in the 23rd and music in the garden on the 27th.

Other musical entertainment through June includes our tribute to ABBA on the 5th and to Elvis on the 20th. And the Malvern Singers and Stringers are coming in on the 11thJune.

Then, we shall be enjoying all the traditions of the Wimbledon fortnight. Fingers crossed for some lovely weather.
