Springtime at The Lawns

We took part in the Kempsey Church Daffodil Event from 21st to 22ndMarch. Residents worked together to make a daffodil collage, which was displayed with other local groups’ works. The local Kempsey School children, who visit us every Wednesday, also took part. Residents went to the event to see all the exhibits. Residents who stayed at home, put together a Spring daffodil display board and wrote a lovely poem. Thank you to our volunteers Heather and Sarah, who are always on hand for our Wednesday walks and stay on to run our ever popular poetry and prose group every other Wednesday afternoon.

We do love the walk to the Church and it is one of our favourite routes on our Wednesday Walks for Wellbeing. We often stop to light a candle at the Church and to admire the stained glass windows, particularly with the beautiful Spring sunshine streaming through the glass. The people of Kempsey are so great - stopping to have a chat whilst dog walking and waving from their homes or cars. It is a wonderful community our residents feel very much a part of. The recent blue sky days have been very welcome. Thank you to the many volunteers and residents family members who assist our Wednesday Walks for Wellbeing. Their support means that every resident who would like to take part can.

A huge thank you to singer Clive Webb for his continued voluntary support. Every Friday he comes to The Lawns to sing and play his guitar. We also enjoyed a new type of entertainment, with AG Magicians, the Masters of Mischief, Comedy and Magic coming in to entertain residents. Everyone wore fun hats and there was a lot of laughter, amazement and energy.

For Easter, we had a wonderfully poignant holy communion service in our lounge with Canon Owain Bell. Plus, an Easter bonnet craft competition, with prizes of chocolate eggs for the winners and we made our own chocolate eggs and decorated biscuits. There were more winners too at our Grand National event.

Coming up....

We have singer Ian Hardman coming in on 16th April.

Then, towards the end of the month, we are starting our armchair travel adventures. First stop Paris. We shall be looking at the sights, brushing up on our best Franglais and enjoying French patisserie.

In May, we have singer Vanessa Butcher entertaining us on 7th May.

Our Gardening Group will be ramping up, with their summer projects getting underway. And our ladies are enjoying their Patchworking Group, working on a project together. Thank you to residents' families who have donated fabric and cotton, needles and fabric scissors. We have some very accomplished seams mistresses among our residents.

We are continuing our seated Zumba classes every Monday. And we have the students from Kings School every Tuesday and the children from Kempsey Primary every Wednesday, through their summer terms.

We are exploring South East Asia with travel and animal documentaries.

And we are having a fundraiser for Dementia UK on 22nd May.
