We have been relaxing into 2026 at Astley Hall and are sticking to our resolutions – to keep smiling and to keep enjoying ourselves.... in spite of all the gloomy weather!
Our Lifestyle and Wellbeing Lead, Katie, has put together a Spring diary of activities, tailored to residents wishes and hobbies. And a few new things to try as well.
Animal Mania, “the mobile zoo that come to you!” visited. They brought their bearded dragon, Giant Rabbit, Chinchilla, tortoise, guinnea pig and even a snake and a giant bull frog. A fantastic experience to be up close to these animals and learn all about them.

Residents do love visits from animals, so were delighted when one of their favourite four legged friends Oakley joined us for lots of cuddles. He really does put a smile on everyone's faces and is so well behaved.
We took part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch at the end of January and made and decorated birdboxes for Next Box Week in February. We do like to encourage the wildlife into our garden and taking part in these events is a good way for residents to connect with nature and also encourages them to venture outside in these colder months. Breathing in the crisp air and looking out for the bulbs pushing through the frosty ground, reminds us that the days are gradually getting longer and Spring is round the corner. We recently took advantage of a glimpse of blue sky to potter in the garden with a few of our residents. Doris said "How lovely it is to see the flowers starting to bloom".
We wrote a story together for National Storytelling Week in February and are looking forward to more get togethers this Spring with children from our local schools and preschools. Residents were so touched by their many visits over Christmas and everyone said how confident and well-mannered they were. It was such a treat to visit The Little Squirrels Nursery to watch their enchanting Christmas show.

Kim is back by popular demand this year for monthly music therapy. Nothing like a good sing-song to lift any January blues! He was back in yesterday as part of our Valentines week, singing love songs and favourite requests. We have been making heart shaped decorations and bunting to decorate our home in readiness for our Valentines Day afternoon tea.
There is Pancake Day as we head towards Easter, and we are planning arts and crafts with Creative Mojo and a visit from the Droitwich Ukulele Band.
