Under starters orders .....

We have been enjoying the blue-sky days, with Charlie from Thrive Gardening on hand helping residents potting up seedlings. It was lovely that residents from Silver Springs Care Home joined us for a gardening session and thank you also to Whip it Like Webber for stopping by in his ice cream van so residents and the team could enjoy the 99’s.

The sun also shone for our Grand National Day. Our game for a laugh team dressed as jockeys to take on the race around our front lawns, much to residents’ amusement.

We had a fabulous visit from DJL Exotics with their array of snakes, geckos, lizards and creepy crawlies. Our residents were braver than our staff as they held the snakes and discovered their skin was surprisingly smooth and dry. Lots of memories shared about trips to the zoo and holidays abroad, and lots of memories made, as it was a first-time experience for many residents to be handling a python!

Carrying on the creepy crawly theme, and for a bit of game nostalgia, we held a Beetle drive! Residents remembered the game from the 1970’s and were quick to pick it up again.

One of our residents played the euphonium for many years and asked if someone could play for her. Our lifestyle and wellbeing lead, Tracey, reached out to The Essex Concert Band and got an immediate response of “Yes, we would love to!”.  Not only did they bring the euphonium, they also brought a wonderful group of talented brass instrument players to play for her and all our residents. It was truly special and thank you to The Essex Concert Band for such kindness.

Coming up......

We are fundraising with our Dementia UK afternoon tea party. And we have a huge range of entertainment in the diary. Alex Southgate and The Black Cactus Choir are back by popular demand and for something new, the wonderful Miss Terry is bringing her comedy drag tour to Abberton. With powerhouse vocals, a knock-out repertoire of songs, her sharp wit, sequins, feathers, fabulous frocks and lots of laughs, she is sure to bring the house down!

After that you might think June would be quiet, but we like to be busy! We have our eggs delivery aspart of the Incredible Eggs hatching programme and will be sharing this experience with the Langenhoe Primary Children.

We have lots planned in the garden including for National Picnic Day, a summer BBQ and Father’s Day celebrations. The U3A Choir and Lianna Bridges art therapy are back. And we have fitness with Oscar Movement and Music and with Gunni from Kiddleydivey, a spot of balloon tennis for Wimbledon.
