British Summertime is officially here and it’s a BIG summer of sport!
Our summer of sport at Abberton
It’s Wimbledon fortnight so, of course, it’s raining! But, rain certainly hasn’t stopped any play here. We are avidly watching the tennis and are having a strawberry tea for the Wimbledon final. We have a sport trolley with ice creams, ice pops, milk shakes and iced drinks, so everyone stays hydrated. We are following the Euros, The Olympics, the golf, the cricket and the Grand Prix! Gunni from Kiddleydivey is putting everyone through their paces with themed seated exercise sessions. We kicked off with balloon tennis.
In other news….
Residents are also thoroughly enjoying our regular Monday Musical Movement sessions with Libby. Lots of singing along with Libby and her blue ukelele.
On Father’s Day we wanted to honour all our Abberton men; Dads, brothers, uncles, friends and role models. We made a little bag of fudge for each of them and there was a special Father’s Day dinner with family. We also showed our appreciation for all our amazing carers during Carers Week, with little gifts.
We like to be out in the garden as much as possible in the summer. Whether that’s to enjoy a game of dominoes with a grandson who is visiting, or for picnics, or when it’s Pimm’s O’clock! Our garden is looking fabulous with our flower planters in full bloom! Recent rainy days have called for games in the lounge. There is always a competitive edge to our scrabble playing. And we all do enjoy socialising at one of our regular events – bingo. One of our gentleman residents is fondly called Bingo Bill when he is our bingo caller, as he does it with such flare!
Congratulations as well to our residents who celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary. We made sure it was a super special day, with a private dinner together with the table decorated with flowers for our gardens.
Coming up….
On 21st July we are hosting our Summer Fete. There will be stalls, a raffle, tombola, games, ice creams, cakes and refreshments.
We have a visit from the Zoo Lab mini beasts (some cuddly, others less so!)
We are also celebrating Friendship Day, which happens to fall on the same day as our monthly residents meeting.
Plus, other national days; from the more informative Moon Landing Anniversary and World Ranger Day, to the “any excuse days” like World Chocolate Day and Prosecco Day! Yes, that’s really a thing!
