We have recently welcomed Cindy Hawkins as our new home manager. Cindy comes with a wealth of experience and we are delighted that she has joined the Astley Hall team. In Cindy’s words;
“I am extremely proud to be part of the team offering many years of managerial experience in providing excellent person-centred care. I have also found the staffing team at Astley to be dedicated, committed and caring, not only in their ethos, but practice too.
I am committed to ensuring that we deliver dedicated, compassionate care, making a positive impact on the lives of the people living at Astley Hall.
We are looking forward to many new activities, by accessing the beautiful surrounding countryside, as well as welcoming the locals to Astley Hall, making new friends and cementing relationships within the community.”
Our Mothering Sunday afternoon tea was the perfect occasion for Cindy to get to know residents and their families. The added bonus was the glorious sunshine, so we hosted the event in our garden. Our terrace was in full sun, though we did have blankets on hand to keep residents wrapped up warm.

Conversation inevitably turned to summer, so we made plans for more garden activities: For National Straw Hat Day on 14th May we are having a hat competition with a prize for the best hat. Then there is National BBQ month which we shall be marking with a BBQ for family and friends on 23rd May - the first of many BBQs through the summer.
We are delighted to welcome back Leanne as our head chef at Astley, who will be whipping up feasts for these events. Plus, our new lifestyle and wellbeing lead, Katie, has just joined us, to support our residents in living their best lives. She will be chatting to residents and working with the team to put together a programme of activities through the summer.
Our gardening club has also now resumed. We have some very green fingered residents and its lovely to see the bulbs they planted popping up. We are planted sunflowers next and the race will be on to see who can grow the tallest one!
We celebrated Easter, with all the traditions. Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate eggs! And a delicious roast lamb lunch. We have singer Megan coming in for our VE Day celebration on 8th May. This is part of a national commemoration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day and all our Heritage homes are taking part.
