It’s that time of year when thoughts turn to holidays, sunny climes and the nostalgia of the British seaside holiday. Our residents have shared such happy childhood memories of holidaying on the coast: Walking along the prom, the wafts of fish and chips and candyfloss and of course, the unpredictable weather. It always necessitated a windbreak and guaranteed a sandy sandwich or two!
We have many requests for a trip to the seaside. To make our residents wishes come true, this July, we brought the seaside to West Eaton.
Seaside week at West Eaton
We built a beach (complete with windbreak and buckets and spades!) so residents could feel the sand between their toe. They built sandcastles and hunted for shells. There were paddling pools for padding – we made one into a rock pool, so residents could look for things to fish with their nets.
The sun shone and on the cooler days we took the fun inside: We made jelly fish, beach bunting and seagulls creating a fabulous sea installation. And it wouldn’t be the British seaside without some traditional entertainment. The Punch and Judy show and Merlin’s Magic Animals Show were a huge hit. Such a fabulous week! A huge thanks to all our team for helping make this happen. The BBQ menu and ice creams topped off the whole experience of West Eaton-by-Sea!
In other news….
Thanks to Lou at Tenbury Transport Trust we were able to take some residents to the exhibition at Leominster Priory. They loved seeing the wonderful panels created by artist Jacqui Parkinson and doing some sensory craft with ECHO. What really made their day through was seeing that so many visitors had added personalised feathers to their own wings art installation.
It was also quite a spectacle for residents to see 250 children from C of E primary schools Orleton and Kimbolton St James walk through the West Eaton garden enroute to see the exhibition. We could hear them coming long before they arrived!
Our summer theme is now everything butterflies. We are hatching our own and working on ways to encourage them to our garden. Plus, the summer of sport with Wimbledon, the Euros and the Olympics.
Following the success of our classical music visits from The Orchestra of the Swan, we have a wind Quartet visiting. We also have our Big Summer Party in August and are continuing our preparations for the Hereford Growing Point late summer show.
