With the weather improving, it is lovely to be getting out on our travels with residents. Continuing our fabulous link with Worcester Wheels, we ventured out for a narrow boat adventure. Where better to enjoy a G&T and a picnic on a sunny day than on the Pamela May Community Boat! What could be better than hearing the excitement and laughter of some young children on their first canoeing experience? Plus, tales of the riverbank with Ratty and Moley.
Travels far……
We took the boys on tour with a trip for our Gents Club to The Anchor in Kempsey. They all love our local – plates and glasses emptied with gusto. Thank you to the team there for making their visit so special.
Our ladies love to lunch too so thanks again to Worcester Wheels, we visited Bluebell Farm Farmhouse Inn. It means so much to be able to pop out for lunch, and a drink, and a pudding, and a coffee to finish. Thank you to our wonderful staff and volunteers who help from making sure people are up and ready. To supporting on and off the minibus, to ensuring everyone gets the right drink, to helping make the day special.
And travels near ….
For residents who can’t venture out, or prefer to stay at home, we bring the destinations to them. Each month we do armchair travel, exploring the history and culture of different countries; their food and drink and national costumes and often incorporate a quiz.
In May, we headed down under to Australia. We learnt about native animals, plants, famous people and lots more. Did you know there are over 86.5 million merino sheep in Australia and that there is a 2,375 km fence to keep the dingos at bay! We had Aussie treats and tipples. Everyone found the Australian wine particularly wholesome! For June, we’re off to Holland.
We are trying to encourage reticent residents out for short walks to promote mobility and sensory stimulation. We are creating small fun fairy gardens to provide destination points in our garden. To help with this, we are after plant donations. One lovely family have given us some beautiful hostas. We really appreciate anything you could share, including faded or unwanted fairy homes etc. We have residents ready with paintbrushes to brighten them up and give them new life.
Garden update!
We managed to dodge the showers and get the hanging baskets planted. Another tick off the garden list!
Our veg beds are growing well , fernery complete, colourful carnations and rockery complete, miniature gardens growing well, hanging baskets done and bind weed well and truly excavated. Thank you to the students of Kings School for their help.
Residents are working so hard, it’s thirsty work! If anyone has an hour or so to help in the week we would be extremely grateful.
In other news
We celebrated Bee Day with a fantastic bee keeper who explained about the different bees and their lives. She showed us honeycombs with and without honey and demonstrated wax paper and products made from her own hives. We tasted runny and set honey straight from her hives along with honey strawberry mead and rhubarb mead. Such a great new learning and sensory afternoon.
Any excuse, we celebrated Donut Week in the only way possible! By eating lots! Plus, marking World Turtle Day with a talk about turtle conservation. Did you know the worlds oldest turtle reached 191 in January this year (yes 191)?
We have been getting ready for D-Day and are commemorating with a church service and street party.
A date further ahead for your diaries – our Country Fair and Scarecrow Event will be on Saturday 6th July.
