There seems to be a National Day for everything! Did you know that today is National Corn on the Cob Day! Sometimes they are a bit silly, but sometimes they are an excuse for something tasty and a bit of fun.
National Days we have been celebrating this Spring
National Biscuit Day gave a structure to our baking morning. Making biscuits together, chatting about our favourites. To dunk or not to dunk? And getting creative decorating biscuits and doing some gingerbread men and women self-portraits.
National Cheese Day was the opportunity for some cheese (and wine!) tasting. A great sensory tasting session, with different strengths of cheeses from mozzarella, to Wensleydale and then blue cheeses.
We did crafting for World Environment Day making bug houses and sun catchers from recycled materials. We also made our own nature trees. Residents all firmly believe that we should all be doing our bit to protect the environment today, so that future generations can enjoy it as well.
We took the opportunity of International Nurses Day to thank all of the amazing nurses here at Summerdyne. They work hard day and night to enable our residents to live their best lives. Treats all round for the team.
Coming up in June are some national days for our bakers, including Cherry Day and Fudge Day. There is also International Picnic Day and National Bingo Day!
Other celebrations at Summerdyne
We marked VE Day with an afternoon tea, with music and reminiscing over stories of the first VE Day. We also joined the nation in the commemorations and celebrations of D-Day. There were crafts, afternoon tea and reminiscence to honour the brave men and women who helped us to victory. A fantastic day with live music from JDR trio. Our residents always love live music and the songs from the 1940’s really evoked that wartime spirit.
We have also been celebrating birthdays, with big days for Gerald and David.
Out and about
We are supporting our friends at the Severn Valley Railway. We took a little trip out to drop off some donations for their great locomotive clean.
It was wonderful to have a trip to Worcester to watch the ESO Wind Quartet as part of the Elgar Festival. A lovely day with smiles all round!
