We have lots of festive plans at Abberton and our residents kicked things off early. At our new Gents Club, run every fortnight, there was a lovely discussion about their shared love of steam trains. An afternoon watching steam trains on U-Tube together was just the ticket! Remembering the Steam Train Santa Specials and tucking into cheese and biscuits, washed down with a beer.

Our ladies also have pamper days fortnightly: Lovely facials and manicures and some festive nail polish colours being chosen. They share afternoon tea together – our kitchen have switched from scones to mince pies!

We have been putting together our residents’ festive recipes, so we can bake the treats they traditionally love, in the run up to Christmas. The delicious smells of Christmas have been wafting through our home. Residents have baked mince pies, cupcakes and even a gingerbread house, held together with lots of royal icing and covered in sweets and sprinkles. They shared lots of stories about making gingerbread houses with their children. The smells of Christmas do evoke festive memories and there is a lovely family feeling here, baking together and nattering away.

Our beautiful home does look so magical at Christmas time with all the decs up and lots of twinkling lights. The festive diary is jam packed. Please email or call [email protected]   01206 735590 for the full list of dates and times.

With all the treats on offer, thank goodness for Kiddleydivey, who are putting us through our paces! We enjoy seated reaching and stretching exercises, whilst playing musical instruments and singing along to the music. Staff and residents also have great fun with the bubble machine. Also, a fabulous sing along visit from the super talented Carly-Anne.

There have been lovely crafting sessions. Lots of thought and dedication went into making Christmas cards for family. We are looking forward to seeing their faces when they open them.

Thank you to the children of Langenhoe Primary for once again coming in to sing carols. Hearing their beautiful voices brings such joy to our residents and it is lovely to have so many children visit. Check out the video here https://www.facebook.com/abbertonmanor/videos/1072312383924472

We also had a special visit from Benjamin, the grandson of a former resident. At just aged 8, he wanted to play the piano for us. We were so touched and thought he was so talented and just fabulous!

Coming up, we have The Black Cactus Choir joining us for a Church service and Alex Southgate singing all the hits between Christmas and New Year. Tickled Pink Productions are back with their touring theatre panto production so there’s sure to be lots of “Boos” and “He’s behind yous”- followed by our Christmas Party with festive buffet and party games.

Plans for the New Year? A little rest and then more fun. We have plans afoot so watch this space….
