We held our Mad Hatter’s Summer Fete on Saturday 8th July with an Alice in Wonderland theme. This was our first summer fete in 6 years, fully arranged by our amazing residents and supported by our fabulous team.

This quote couldn’t be more true: “The secret is to surround yourself with people who make your heart sing. It’s then, and only then, that you’ll find wonderland.”

Planning a Wonderland

Residents put their hearts into making decorations, sewing bunting, wrapping raffle prizes, making gifts, organising games… the list goes on.

They took inspiration from the theme creating giant playing cards, tissue paper flamingos, an enormous grandfather clock, a secret door, signs and inspirational quotes.

They put together a huge Raffle with raffle prizes generously donated by local businesses and our community. The champagne hamper was fabulous. There was a Dog Teddy Tombola and guess the Name of the Dog. A huge table full of gifts handmade by our residents. A plant stall with plants grown by our residents. And a cakes and bakes stall, again many made by residents and our team. Refreshments, food and garden games.

The day itself!

We were keeping a close eye on the weather forecast on the few days ahead of our Fete. Was it to be Wonderland or Thunderland?! Either way, the show would go on! Fortunately, the rain held off in the most part and the support from residents families, friends and our local community was tremendous.

Residents proudly manned their stalls. Our staff were there in force, many back on their well-earned rest days and in amazing fancy dress. We also had our very own Queen of Hearts. Everything came together beautifully and our residents pulled off a triumph!

The Guide Dogs for the Blind had a stall at the fete as well selling gifts. They also brought along some guide dogs who delighted everyone. All the fundraising from the event is going towards our residents chosen charity, The Guide Dogs. We are delighted to announce that the event raised a whopping £800. This takes our total raised to date for the Guide Dogs to £1800.
