We have enjoyed lots of celebrations at Abberton this past couple of months. And with the sun finally shining, after what seemed like a very long wet winter, there are lots of reasons to be celebrating!
Coronation and big birthday celebrations
We joined the nation in celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III, decorating our home with balloons, bunting, flags and hand-made decorations from our crafting sessions.
Our dining room looked fabulous for the Coronation party we hosted for residents, their families and friends. Such a joyous atmosphere; everyone was in their red, white and blue, watching all the pomp and pageantry with a buffet lunch thanks to our chef John and plenty of toasts to the King and Queen. We rounded things off with a game of Coronation Bingo, with lots of Coronation themed prizes. Thank you to our team for helping make this such a memorable day for our residents.
We also celebrated Evelyn’s 100th birthday. She had a wonderful afternoon tea party here with her family and friends. A fabulous cake, so many stunning flowers and, very importantly, a letter from The King and Queen!
Other activities at Abberton
We have had visits from singers Alex Southgate and Carly. So interactive with residents on the microphone singing and lots of props.
Our lifestyle lead Sarah has a litter of Dachshund puppies. We have been following their first few weeks and were delighted when she brought them in for cuddles!
With the weather improving (at long last!) we are enjoying being out the garden. Our gardening club are planting out their seedlings. And we had a trip to Perrywood Garden Centre for bedding plants and provisions, followed by coffee and scones. We have also picked foliage from the garden to add into our flower arrangements. A lovely afternoon of floristry and chat and a tremendous sense of achievement at the end.
National Cream Tea Day and National Picnic Day are in June. The perfect excuse for an afternoon tea in the garden. Did you know National Cream Tea Day is in its 9th year and is organised by Tiptree Preserves, who are local to us? – we do love a visit to their tea room and shop.
