Our ethos at Heritage Manor is about enriching the lives of our residents. To enable them to do the things that they enjoy, make things fun and introduce new experiences. At the end of January we marked the second recognition week for National Activity Providers and Professionals.
The National Activity Providers Association is the UK’s leading activity and engagement charity. They support care services to prioritise wellbeing and promote activity, arts and engagement. https://napa-activities.co.uk/ Our lifestyle lead Mike is a member, as are lots of the activities providers we welcome to our home.
As part of the recognition week, residents wrote notes of thanks to Mike. He was instrumental in helping raise funds for our minibus, is always singing and lights up a room. Residents love getting involved in all his activities. Mike also supports them in their plans. We have a residents ambassador, Irene, who helps coordinate residents meetings and liaises with the staffing team. She is also a dab hand at the Number Generator running Bingo!
Other examples of enriching lives
We have regular exercise sessions with Tamar today from Fitniss – wellbeing in care. Armchair exercise is a great way to promote motor activity and improves circulation and dexterity. Tamar is so engaging with the residents, taking time with each of them and injecting fun into the classes.
The Pupils at St Anne’s CE Primary School and Nursery, Bewdley are always on hand to bring our residents joy and happiness. Our intergenerational pen-pal initiative continues with year five pupils sharing their stories. They ask questions that only 9 and 10 year old can ask! Its so lovely for our staffing team to read out the children’s letters and residents love to reply.
We asked residents what they would like for Valentine’s Day. One said “a nice young man to bring me a glass of champagne and a red rose.” Another wanted love songs sung to them. So, we made these wishes come true.
The fantastic Richard Ryan performed a variety of love songs to our Residents and Staff. And Brandon, our partially clothed Butler from Buff Boyz Butlers delivers fresh red roses and champagne to all. It was certainly a Valentine’s Day to remember and one that brought so many smiles and laughs to everyone.
Other musical entertainment came from the talented JDR Trio. Firm favourites here with hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s. We also celebrated Gwen’s 100th birthday and Lydia’s 30th birthday.
St David’s Day was marked with some Welsh activities. We used the resources from The National Activity Providers Association, which provided colouring templates and poems. We listened to music from famous Welsh Singers and Composers and used some Welsh props as conversation starters. Thank you to all the staff who helped and especially Wendy who ran the activities.
