On New Years Eve residents agreed that 2022 had been such fun and for 2023 one of the resolutions was for more of the same!
Our New Year resolutions
“Do what makes you happy.. whatever that may be”. With that zest for life, we have a new Receptionist. Jean is one of our residents, who wanted to get involved and welcome people at our front desk. She was delighted to accept her work ID badge. Do pop in and meet her. She has so many brilliant stories and is a right chatterbox!
We also have a Resident Ambassador, who is a voice for residents and involved in recruitment and other aspects of home life. Residents have also formed a Social Committee to regularly meet to discuss fundraising and any events they would like. A treasure hunt has been suggested ….watch this space.
All these things give meaningful occupation, which is fundamental to our health and wellbeing, identity, self esteem and belonging.
Another resolution is “do more of the same”. Our successful series of armchair travel adventures is heading to China next to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We have a craft project making a huge Chinese dragon using the handprints of each of our residents. Plus a Chinese feast and fortune cookies.
We are continuing with our Tai Chi classes on a Monday; great for stretching, coordination and balance. Plus Funky Fun Friday seated exercise classes. We always a few props with these sessions. Great for getting us ready for Pancake Races on Shrove Tuesday 21st February. Very competitive, requisite fancy dress and lots of fun!
We have lots of day trips planned including to the local garden centre, Upton and Worcester Cathedral and commandary. Worcester Wheels are always on hand to help us with these trips but we do need some volunteers. Please let us know if you are free to help. Only with volunteer support can these trips out take place.
Festive highlights
Congratulations to our residents for raising a whopping £1,025 at their first Christmas Fair, fundraising for The Guide Dogs. Rightly so, they all feel so proud of this achievement. They planned the event themselves, crafted Christmas gifts to sell, arranged games, tombolas, a cake stall, refreshments and a raffle. Thank you to everyone who donated and attended. Our residents were overwhelmed by the support.
The Community Carol Concert with Severnside Parishes was a fabulous community event. Thank you to the church team for their constant support and spiritual enrichment. Residents wrapped up warm outside, or sang in our atrium where they could see all our local community gathered for carolling. Just magical singing together by candlelight, hearing the children’s voices, the brass band and watching the amazing live nativity! Thank you to Worcester Fencing team for building us a stable and Lodge Valais for bringing their sheep!
Our staffing team pulled out all the stops to make sure there were smiles all round this Christmas. Our home manager Mel arrived on Christmas morning at 7.30am to thank the night team and welcome the day team. She then gave out presents to all our residents. There was such a warm glow of family and friendship at our home this Christmas. Residents loved with their New Year’s Eve surprise. Simon the Piper piped in the haggis for a traditional Scottish Hogmanay to herald the New Year.
