After a festive season full of events and activities, our residents New Years Resolution is to do more of what we love!
We have a Resident Ambassador, who is a voice for the residents and is also involved in recruitment and other aspects of home life. Residents have also formed a Social Committee to regularly meet to discuss fundraising and any events they would like.
All these things give meaningful occupation, which is fundamental to our health and wellbeing, identity, self esteem and belonging.
More of what we love ……
- Our seated exercise sessions have resumed to get us fit, often with a slight competitive edge! Beanbag throwing petanque and darts are two favourites.
- We are looking forward to the Spring term visits from the Debutots.
- We have booked in our favourite entertainers Ray and Kim for Friday sing-alongs and music therapy.
- Aprons at the ready – our resident bakers are making weekly treats to share with everyone. We shall all be marking Shrove Tuesday on 21st February making, tossing (and possibly racing!) pancakes.
- Our assistant manager Kelly is regularly bringing her dog into our home. We all love a cuddle from a four legged friend.
- Our florists are brightening up our home with their beautiful arrangements.
- Transformation Tuesdays are continuing with manicures and a visit to our in home hair salon.
Up coming events and activities
Our craft project for the New Year is our Astley Memory Tree. Each resident will be contributing artwork, photographs and a story about themselves. We will hang them on a huge tree display in our home. It is a lovely way for staff and residents to get to know each other better. A chance to reminisce and share memories.
We are decorating our home for Chinese New Year celebrating the Year of the Rabbit with a Chinese themed dinner and fortune cookies. Then our Burns Night celebration with Scottish poetry, the ode to the haggis, neaps and tatties. Plus a tot of whisky!
Over the winter we are keeping the bird feeders in the garden stocked up. We have signed up to take part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch weekend from 27-29th January.
We have a wonderful vocalist Janette coming in on Valentines Day to sing for residents and make the day that bit more special. Our crafting will be making Valentines Cards for our loved ones.
