We are enjoying lots of fun festive events here at Abberton and what better way to kick off the season that with Panto! Thank you to the actors at Tickled Pink Productions who staged Aladdin for our residents. All the traditions, with the hilarious Widow Twankey as the pantomime dame and lots of “Boo’s” and “He’s behind You’s” with the appearance of the panto villain. It was a truly magical day and it is wonderful to have touring theatre productions visiting our home.
We got the decs up early, with a beautiful tree twinkling in the lounge. Our resident floristry ladies also brought the outside in, with wreaths and table centres made from foliage from the garden – we realised we were being watched, when we spotted Mr Tod the fox, out in the daytime and remarkably close! He looked like a picture scene from a Beatrix Potter book! It is wonderful to be surrounded by so much nature. Our crafters also hand made gifts and decorations. A lovely shared time to reminisce about childhood Christmases and gifts we received.
And December also had some milestone birthdays. Our Ron was 90 years young! It was a super special day of celebrations for him.
It’s the time to glam up and a pampering session was just the ticket for many of our ladies, with manicures and nails painted a festive red. All ready for some more festive fun.
Festive events
Thank you to the children of Langenhoe Primary for coming in to sing carols. Hearing their beautiful voices brought such joy to our residents and it was lovely to have so many children visit, particularly after the last few years of COVID restrictions. We also cannot wait for the tots from Muddy Boots Christmas visit on the 16th, where we will have some festive treats in store.
- 12th December: Lillian Lace is visiting to sing music hall favourites and wartime songs.
- 21st December: Shania Grace is entertaining us with songs from the musicals
- 23rd December: Staff residents and their families Christmas Party. We have a lady from the RAF coming in to sing at the party. There will be a buffet and everyone dressed up for the occasion.
Thank you to the Abberton team who work their socks off to make Christmas special for residents. Bringing all the tradition and introducing residents to some newer traditions. Lord Albert, our elf on the shelf is back! Plus sharing their time enjoying special moments with residents; including a very memorable staff rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas!
So plans for the New Year! A little rest and then more fun. We have plans afoot so watch this space….
