Christmas preparations are well underway here at The Lawns and the countdown has begun! We have so many events, so please see our diary at our home. Or see our Facebook page, Newsletter or call us. But first an Autumn update….

We recently welcomed pianist Michael Campbell to our home. He hosted a concert for our residents playing the piano in our reception atrium, which has wonderful acoustics. Our residents sang their hearts out to the classical pieces, including some well-known songs from The Last Night of The Proms. It was incredibly moving, made even more so by the fact that Michael is aged 90 and registered blind. An inspiration to us all.

Getting out and about: residents visited Alpaca Meadows Hanley Castle. Trish met us off the bus for alpaca cuddles, explaining all about them and then provided the best Victoria sponge, freshly roasted coffee and copious cups of tea.

Upcoming trips / pre-booking essential…

16th November – shopping trip to Malvern Retail Park
12th December – Worcester Cathedral Christmas tree festival
14th December – Cinderella Christmas panto at The Swan Worcester

We had a spook-tacular Halloween party, with some great costumes and trick or treating. For bonfire night, we enjoyed toasted marshmallows, hot chocolates, sparklers and lots of reminiscing.

The Christmas countdown

These are the main Christmas events. There is something on everyday so please contact our Lifestyle and wellbeing team for full details. [email protected]

This year’s festivities begin with our Christmas Fayre on Saturday 3rd December. This is being run by our residents, supported by The Lawns team. They are selling homemade items including gifts and cakes. There will be a tombola and raffle, with all proceeds going towards our residents’ fundraising charity, The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. So far, they have raised £385 towards a guide dog that they would like to name Lorne. Please come along and support us and join in the fun.

Watch out for the cheeky elves with our Elf and Safety Crew for National Elf Day on 2nd December. And more dressing up on 9th December for our Christmas Jumper Day competition and on 21st December for our Elvis Party!

We have a number of day trips out in the diary including Cinderella at the Worcester Swan Theatre. To ensure all our residents can enjoy the theatre this Christmas we are also welcoming the touring Children’s Theatre Group on 11th December.

Our Lights of Love Christmas Memorial Service on 15th December is a time to remember those who are not with us and to celebrate their lives. We have carols around our Christmas tree on 19th December with piano accompaniment, mince pies and mulled wine. We are also looking forward to supporting the Community Carol Concert outside The Lawns organised by St Mary’s Church, Kempsey on 22nd December.

There will be all the traditions for Christmas week, including a reading of The Night Before Christmas by Mrs Claus herself on Christmas Eve and the biggest turkey with all the trimmings.

Then, we roll into New Year with our last armchair travel destination of the year, Scotland for Hogmanay! Phew! A rest in the New Year or more fun? Our residents are already making plans so we know which option they choose! As we like to say “You don’t stop having fun when you get old… you get old when you stop having fun”.
