We have been celebrating all the end of autumn events and Christmas is coming up quickly! But first an update…
On sunnier days we have raked and sowed our wildflower seed in our garden scheme. It was also wonderful to have such tremendous support across the generations for our mammoth bulb planting afternoon. All helpers were rewarded with tea and scones. It will be so lovely in the spring to see all the daffodils, tulips and crocuses pop up.
We celebrated Diwali, festival of light with a themed curry dinner prepared by our chef Emlyn. residents got stuck in too, making spicy potato balls. There was singing and dancing by Agnus and Anna and residents experienced Mehndi design henna artwork on their hands.
Our Halloween Pumpkin carving competition was a huge success. Residents carved their own gruesome designs and got into character! Thank you to Morrisons Leominster Community Support for the donations of pumpkins and prizes.
For Bonfire Night we celebrated with fireworks. Some residents braved the elements outside waving sparklers. The semaphore with sparklers was very amusing. Then back inside to warm up with hot chocolates, marshmallows and hotdogs.
Christmas preparations are well underway. Residents picked all our tomatoes and making chutney for Christmas gifts. We shall also be making Christmas cake and puddings on stir-up Sunday at the end of November. They have also made Danish apple cake from our home grown apples and spooky spicy Halloween biscuits. It is so sociable baking together and incredibly rewarding.
Christmas is coming….
We have visits planned from local school children for Christingle and a carol service. And a Christmas party with carols around the piano, mulled wine and mince pies for residents and their families. Our favourite entertainers are booked for festive Friday sing-alongs and a new story teller, Simon the StoryBodger.
We will be having a Christmas crafting competition to make decorations for our tree and a visit to the Leominster Victorian Fair for shopping. Everyone likes to look their best for Christmas and our ladies love to glam up – so we also have arranged hair and beauty treatments and for a photographer to come in.
It will soon be Advent and the Christmas countdown will properly begin! We are arranging advent treats each day for residents with lots of surprises and incorporating their favourite festive traditions.
