….or should we say kindness by the bouquet full! Thank you to Morrisons Community Champion in Kidderminster for their extremely generous donation of flower bouquets for Mother’s Day. They really brightened up our residents days. Huge smiles and happy faces all round.
Other community acts of kindness
Whilst Michael, our Lifestyle lead, was buying plants in Kidderminster B&Q recently, he got chatting to another shopper. She asked what the plants were for and he told her about the Summerdyne Gardening Club. At the checkout the lady offered to pay for the plants. She didn’t want to give her name, but said that she hoped they would make our residents smile as they plant them and give them a lot of joy. Such a lovely act of kindness. A huge thank you on behalf of all our residents and staff at Summerdyne.
Going the whole HOG at 102!
When Joan celebrated her 102nd Birthday it really was a birthday to remember thanks to our local community. Thanks to Postcards of Kindness she received well wishes from students at St Anne’s Primary School, Bewdley School and Sixth Form. People got in touch from as far afield as France, Michigan and Australia. Plus a fantastic surprise when the motorcyclists from Birmingham Harley Davidson Owners Group roared into our car park. With bikes and helmets gleaming in the sunshine and in their leathers, the HOGs serenaded Joan along with our team!
Its a bug’s life!
Thank you to Marlene Turner and her husband The Rev Mark Turner who have refurbished our ‘Summerdyne Bug Hotel’. Check it out! We thing you will agree it looks amazing! It has been painted, varnished and transformed into a 5 star hotel. Now a vibrant hive of activity for all of those insects and bugs currently residing in the grounds of Summerdyne. It even has the addition of solar lights and plants too!!!
Fresh produce to juice
Our Juicing project with Robot Coupe UK has been such a success with the help of fantastic produce from some amazing suppliers. Tony and his team at Bewdley Farm Shop most recently donated some wonderfully fresh produce including pineapples, kiwi, strawberries, melon, oranges and apples. Thank you too to Hopleys Farm Shop.
Fundraising kindness by our team and residents
We had a host of events for our residents and team raising money to support World Downs Syndrome Day 2022. Michael was custard pied and you can see from the photo that everyone thoroughly enjoyed this!
Residents wore odd socks as part of Rock Your Socks for Down Syndrome and we also baked homemade cakes for sale.
Team recognition and resident remembrance
Staff received a small token of appreciation as part of Social Care Remembrance and Reflection Day 2022. We asked our residents to tell us what they would like to say to our team and had some wonderful responses. They were written in staff thank you cards and we also gave each member of the team a little goodie bag.
We were presented with a wonderful bench of remembrance, inscribed, BOB’S BENCH! Bob was a resident at Summerdyne and was a keen sun worshiper, who loved sitting out under the window watching people come and go for hours. He sadly recently passed away and the gift was from his family to ours as a thank you for his care at Summerdyne. Resident have enjoyed soaking up the sun and planting some wonderful planters to sit alongside Bob’s Bench. Thank you to Bob’s family for this wonderful gift.
