It is wonderful to see residents celebrate their birthdays with small parties for friends and family. Also, there have been a few National Days giving a perfect excuse for “a bit of a do”.
Birthday parties
Sheila celebrated her 85th birthday. Jean had a visit from her sister for her 99th birthday and Mary celebrated her 91st birthday with her family. Our chef always makes personalised birthday cakes and our team make each resident’s day super special.
National Days of Celebration
For National Cheese Day 2022, we had a cheese and wine tasting day. Residents sampled lots of different cheeses and wines. It became more of a wine tasting day if we are honest! It was so lovely to see residents engaging and chatting with each other in a social environment.
We paid homage to pizza on National Pizza Day. Staff and residents put their creative skills to the test creating their favourite pizza. Our chefs handmade the pizza dough and residents chose their own toppings. Pizza parties have been added to the list of favourites for residents!
On Valentines Day Cupid landed at Summerdyne and gave our ladies and gents a real treat. There were balloons and cupcakes and a Valentines lunch. We had live music from the children of St Anne’s CE Primary School and Nursery in Bewdley. Their gorgeous voices made all our hearts melt and it was wonderful to welcome children back to our home.
Who organises all the parties?
Our Lifestyle and Wellbeing Team is lead by Mike with his assistant Sue. Together they plan a range of activities for residents, which focus on what they enjoy to do; The Lifestyle and Wellbeing Programme. From day to day comforts, to reminiscing and helping rediscover old hobbies and interests, to introducing new experiences. Punctuating daily routine with uplifting moments, such as parties and celebrations. Fundraising and supporting eachother and local community to give a sense of fulfilment. Making memories and living life to the full and in a way that makes each resident happy.
Recently we marked National Activities Providers & Professionals Week 2022. Mike and Sue both received certificates of appreciation from the National Activity Provider Association in recognition of their amazing roles.
We have also just appointed a Resident Ambassador, Irene. She joined Summerdyne in June 2021 and enjoys being part of a group, e.g. volunteering, the WI and Horticultural Society.
We approached Irene to become our Resident Ambassador for her commitment to Summerdyne and always expressing her opinion on ways in which we could do things better. Irene helps deliver our movement to music and gentle exercise sessions. She encourages other residents to get involved with our Lifestyle and Wellbeing Programme of events. She helps decide on that Programme. Irene has also agreed to assist with our Residents Meetings and meet prospective new team members.
