Love is in the air here at Abberton as we are looking forward to our special Valentines lunch.
Residents have been decorating our home with hand crafted hearts and flowers. Also, take a look at our Facebook page for our residents’ words of wisdom for positivity and love.
Love is eternal
One of our residents, Stanley, wrote this beautiful poem he entitled “Moonlight” in memory of his loving wife Gwen:
In the moonlight, I touch her face.
I hear her voice. She say’s she loves me.
I breathe the air that holds her words.
My lungs absorb her atoms and they become a part of me.
I choose a star, I gave it a name;
I give it her name and it outshines the others.
I look in her eyes and see her soul,
Which no-one else has seen, or will ever see.
We love uniting, flesh and seed.
Under the new star, in the moonlight.

Welcome back to Ruth
We are delighted to have Ruth Merchant back at the helm as our home manager. Ruth joined Abberton in March 2020 and after a family bereavement, had time away to support her family. A huge thank you to Matthew Cox for his support as interim manager and it is lovely to welcome Ruth back into the Abberton family.
Looking ahead – events for March
Looking ahead, we have plans for a pancake day with a twist to mark Shrove Tuesday.
Nutrition and Hydration Week starts on 11th March which is a good time to look at the importance of hydration. Also, the signs of dehydration and the mantra “if it’s not pale straw, drink more!”
We shall be having some fun creating our own mocktails and ice cream floats. Plus a lolly competition, with the winning entry staying on the menu for those warmer summer days. We are dreaming of those, although we did remember that this time last year we were under a blanket of snow!
And speaking of competitions, there is a Staff v Residents University Challenge in the pipeline. We are all brushing up on our general knowledge!
