We wanted to share our BIG news, that Summerdyne are WINNERS again!
Duck house Competition winners
We have just been given FIRST PRIZE at the Bewdley Duck House Competition! Our residents last won this competition back in 2019 with their yarn bombed duck house. Last year the competition did not happen due to COVID, but The Bewdley Festival was back this year. The Duck house Competition is a special community event at the Festival. Entries are staged in the Jubilee Gardens for all to see, and vote for, on the duck house walk.
Once again, our residents worked incredibly hard on their entry. And what an impressive duck house they designed. The judges and our local community clearly agreed!
Themed as Alice in Wonderland it was complete with a looking glass view into the interior of the house, which was also intricately decorated. Plus, a button people could press to play music.
It has been wonderful to visit the Jubilee Gardens with residents to admire all the entries and for this festival to once again be taking place. We are all elated and residents are incredibly touched by the support from our local community and all the votes!
Award Winners
Summerdyne has just been re-certified with our PLATINUM Gold Standard Framework Award.
The Gold Standard Framework is a care industry kitemark of excellence in palliative, or end of life, nursing care. We were one of the first care homes in Worcestershire to achieve this award in 2015 and have held platinum status since 2019.
This is thanks to the care and dedication of our team, in their support of our residents and their families through the most difficult of times.
Other News
We raised over £310 at our Macmillan Coffee Morning. A huge thank you to everyone who baked cakes, sold cakes and ate cakes. Also to Strawberry Fayre who lent us beautiful vintage crockery for the day. Having fun and raising precious funds with every slice!
For Halloween we had a community wide Pumpkin Carving Competition. Thank you so much to the Morrisons Kidderminster Community Champion for the pumpkin donations. Residents had such fun carving the pumpkins and we had some spook-tacular entries. We would like to thank everyone involved in the Competition. Our pumpkin display was the perfect backdrop for our Halloween party.
To mark Remembrance in November, we have created a display outside Summerdyne. Wooden poppies and soldier silhouettes hand crafted by our residents form a poppy field, along with a banner and music playing the last post.
The display is for residents, staff, relatives and our local community to come along and enjoy, as well as pay their respects to the fallen. There will also be an opportunity for residents to lay our poppy wreath at the local church in Bewdley.
We also have a WW11 & Britain in the 30’s Reminiscence boxes that we have loaned from Bewdley Museum for residents to sit and discuss and enjoy.
