We have had an action packed Autumn, with lots of fun events, bringing the laughter to our residents. Plus, relaxed quality time together: A natter over a cuppa, supporting each other, helping a friend, pottering and reminiscing. Whatever each person enjoys to feel contentment in their everyday.
Our Autumn Events
Country and Western
We are still reeling from our toe-tappingly fabulous Country and Western day. There was live music from renowned musician Selwyn Reed and beers at the Saloon Bar.
We even had our very own rhinestone cowgirl – riding out on her “horse” for our star-spangled rodeo! As Dolly Parton once said “If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.” There were certainly smiles all round our ranch that day! Here are a few of the pictures from the day.
From the Wild West to the Outback, we have welcomed some new pets to our home: Australian finches and Zebra finches. Our residents had a lot of fun (and laughs!) choosing their names.
Halloween spooky antics
We kindly had 20 pumpkins kindly donated by our community champion at Tesco St. Peters. Residents enjoyed lots of pumpkin carving and made a spook-tacular display and enjoyed pumpkin soup.
Our Gin tasting event
A brilliant evening with our Len saying “Can we do this every week?”.
We learnt about the distilling process and the botanicals used . We had lovely examples to touch and smell. There was the history of gin and not least the tasting, with and without tonic or lemonade.
Needless to say, it was a late night, but everyone slept well! One resident claimed she was ‘drunk in charge of a walking frame’!
Christmas Events
After Christmas had to be paired back last year due to the COVID lockdown, we are delighted to be welcoming families and hosting some fabulous events for our residents.
- On National Elf Day Friday 3rd December we are fundraising for The Alzheimer’s Society. Watch out for our naughty elves making mischief, bringing the fun and laughter to our residents.
- We are welcoming The Tenor “Joshua Daniels” on 16th December. He has sung in some amazing venues across the country, including St Paul’s Cathedral. We are delighted to have the chance to hear his voice resonating through our home!
- We are also immensely looking forward to the Kempsey Community Carol Concert on 22nd December. It was a truly magical occasion last Christmas and the joy you gave our residents was immeasurable. We are so happy the event is happening again.
- There will be lots of traditional Christmas festivities from making table centres cards and decoration, a Gingerbread Challenge and a Christmas Jumper competition. Plus our Sip and Singalong on the 24th December.
Every Thursday, the 16-17 year old students from Kings School Worcester join us for games afternoons. There is always such a buzz in our lounge with residents sharing stories, anecdotes, games and activities. The students are such a credit to their school and the generational mix has proved extremely positive. This collaboration is continuing to the end of term.
Christmas Project Update
We have had tremendous support for our Christmas Project. So far we have been sent over 400 knitted squares, 100 knitted decorations and a very big knitted fairy for the top of the tree! Squares have arrived from lots of neighbours, community friends and family and further afield; Durham, Nottingham, East Lothian and even Cyprus!
We have sewn together many of the squares to create a 10 foot Christmas tree, knitted lamp post and brick wall and still have more than enough to make 2 smaller trees and some bushes. Residents are loving watching things grow and are still knitting!
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy Christmas from all our team and residents at The Lawns.
