It has been a lovely few months at West Eaton and we have been creating some magical moments and making memories.

Shared moments for residents

There was a real sense of accomplishment at our Art in Care Homes Day in September. Local artist Mark Jenkins came in to share his expertise with residents. He guided them through paint and brush techniques, so they each created a stunning sunset picture. Check out the video here.

The Dolloway Dancers entertained us with songs from the 1940’s and 1950’s. We learnt the hand jive to Rockin Robin! There were smiles on everyone’s faces and happiness in our hearts.

There was more music with Rob on guitar and Phil on the fiddle. They regaled us with Irish Jigs, some French Folk Tunes. Such a giggle with ‘I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts’ and ‘I’m Henry the 8th’.

Eddie Graham also gave us a cheeky afternoon of entertainment from country to the classics. Our residents love live music. One resident said recently “It’s like being on a cruise ship but without the waves making you feel sick!”

Our regular knit and natter group have been busy knitting squares which Pam has offered to sew into a blanket. Lots of memories shared over the click clack of needles. Betty remembered the socks that were needed for the military and Valerie was soon picking up speed after some time away from knitting.

Thank you to Dom of Doms Bike Shop, across from our home, who arranged for his regular motor bikers to pop in to visit our residents. Quite a moment to see them roaring into our driveway! For many of our residents they were able to reminisce about when they had or rode motorcycles.

We had a spook-tacular Halloween with a Monster Mash party and a Pumpkin Carving Competition. Thank you to Morrisons Leominster Community Support for the donations of pumpkins and prizes. We had so many entries! Check out our video.

halloween at West Eaton - magical moments

Personal moments with See Me Stories

From his See Me Story we know that Lawrence loves German food and beer.  So we hosted our own Oktoberfest with a fabulous menu created by our kitchen team, Tony and Emlyn.

There was Bratwurst Sausage, Currywurst Sausage and Pork Schnitzel with all the traditional accompaniments. And, of course, a selection of German beers and wine, German Band Music and Fraulein Clare dressed up for the occasion. So much fun and a lot of merriment! Laurence said it was almost as good as his first ever Oktoberfest he attended as a young man.

A FAB-U-LOUS moment for Sue! Our residents are loving Strictly Come Dancing and Sue is our TOP fan, with Dan Walker her favourite celebrity.

Sue helped Clare make our GIANT Strictly Scoreboard – complete with glitter ball and fancy curtains! She has been watching the shows and with the help of Clare, has been sending Dan messages of support on his Facebook page.

You can imagine her delight to receive in the post a signed postcard from Dan and his professional partner Nadiya thanking Sue and all the residents at West Eaton for their support. Sue said “It’s made my year”

Remembrance

Residents worked hard on their wrapped wool poppies for our poppy display along our fence. We have also had poppies donated by the local WI branches in Herefordshire, the Leominster and Bromyard Branches of the Royal British Legion and Ivington & Westfield Primary Schools. Such lovely community support. Thank you so much. Simon Addison The Hereford the Piper leads us in commemoration.
