We have been welcoming new residents to our home, for longer stays or respite care. We have also welcomed some new faces to our care team.
New faces on our team
Over the summer we welcomed Jamie who is in charge of all aspects of maintenance of our home. He is a star and can turn his hand to anything: Tending our gardens and grounds, which bring so much pleasure to our residents and making great progress with the repainting of our windows and external doors. No mean feat, given the size and scale of our Manor.
We have also welcomed Helen to our nursing team and Nicky to our Lifestyle and Wellbeing team. They have been getting to know our residents and bringing the sunshine onto our home. Both fit perfectly into our Abberton family.
Nicky is learning how to crochet under the tutelage of our residents. Our Knit and Natter Coffee mornings are very popular. One lady resident has picked up her knitting needles again and rekindled her love for knitting. Our friendship blanket is progressing well.
We recently had a visit from ZooLab with all sorts of unusual animals. From snakes to tarantulas, giant millipedes and geckos. They put us out of our comfort zones slightly, but we all surprised ourselves with our bravery and huge smiles appeared all round. Thankfully, the tarantula stayed in his house, whilst we had a close look! It was an absolutely amazing experience for residents. Proving the saying that you are never too old to try new things.
We have been getting other new faces; new residents and their families. It is lovely to see residents nattering together over lunch with a glass of wine. Our recent Beetle Drive was a great way to bring everyone together. Such a giggle and lots of memories of Beetle Drive parties.
We also hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning and made bunting and cakes for the occasion. It was wonderful to raise £68.85 for this charity so close to our hearts. With the return of The Great British Bake Off we have been having Bake Off Tuesdays. Our bakes have been tying in with the themes on the show – so shortbread for biscuit week!
With the weather turning, it’s been lovely to snuggle up with popcorn and a movie – James Bond being ever popular. And Autumn at Abberton means Halloween! It is always a favourite here with lots of themed activities. There will be pumpkin carving to create spook-tacular Jack-o’-lanterns, Monster Mash dancing for our music therapy and lots of Trick or Treating!
