There is a real summer holiday feel here at Astley. Our garden is looking amazing. We have been having garden games and BBQ’s, making the most of the weather.
The sensory garden has been specially designed and planted for accessibility for all our residents. With raised beds so everyone can be hands on in the garden – our strawberries and raspberries are really coming on – and so resident can touch the leaves and run their hands through the grasses. The scent of our roses and lavender all a-buzz with bees and benches for moments of quiet reflection. The perfect spot too for a cuppa and catch up with visitors and to take in the view over the fields to Astley Church and the Malvern Hills.
A big thank you to one of our green fingered resident gardeners Alan, who is happiest tending our gardens. Residents and families really do admire and appreciate his hard work and it gives him a huge sense of achievement.
We also want to congratulate our fabulous Lifestyle and Well-being lead Maddison, who has graduated as an occupational therapist. All that hard work and her success is so well deserved. Our residents loved seeing her in her gown and mortar board for graduation day.
With the heatwave, it was time to call the ice cream van! The tinkling music stirred so many childhood memories of running to buy ice creams as children. And the taste of a 99 with a Flake. Just lovely to see two of our ladies enjoying together “the most delicious ice cream” but agreeing that they “couldn’t manage two!” Check out our Summer Holiday video. https://www.facebook.com/astleyhallheritage/videos/316141563527569
What a summer of sport!
We were swept up in football fever, festooned our home in flags and bunting and cheered on our inspiring England team. We also watched some exhilarating tennis and had a strawberry cream tea and jugs of Pimms for the men’s final. So Wimbledon and so Astley Hall!
Next, it’s the Tokyo Olympics and we shall be having our own mini-Olympics with themed fitness sessions and garden games.
