We have been busy at Newstead making magical moments. It is certainly a summer of sport and music and it wouldn’t be a summer without a BIG wedding to celebrate!

Magical moments with Pentre Farm

We are so lucky to have Mollie the dog as a regular visitor for cuddles and walks. Our residents love animals so, as soon as we have been able, we arranged a visit from Pentre Petting Farm. It was wonderful to be able to groom the Shetland ponies and feed the cheeky goats. The little bunnies and guinea pigs were so adorable to snuggle. And the wool on the sheep so warm.

Did you know that cuddling animals reduces blood pressure and our levels of the stress hormone cortisol. You can see from this video just how much our residents enjoyed the day. https://www.facebook.com/100057054866714/videos/782824989080081

Say it with flowers

We had a lovely flower arranging session making arrangements in memory of our departed friends Mary and Barbara. It was lovely to work together to create something beautiful in their honour and chat about all the happy times.

Did you know that our fabulous lifestyle and wellbeing lead Caroline is getting married in August? Our residents wanted to contribute to her big day, so they are growing from seed the sunflowers for her bouquet. Such a lovely gesture. They are also throwing for her a Hen party!!

Magical moments from The Royal National College for the Blind

We are delighted to have a series of visits through the summer from the talented music students of the RNC. https://www.rnc.ac.uk/

Firstly the wartime classics beautifully sung by Gabs Grubbs. We heard renditions of We’ll Meet Again, White Cliffs of Dover, Moon River and many more!

Then we were thrilled to welcome Hannah Roper, a solo violinist. Last week one of our residents, Sister Francis told us how much she loved listening to the violin. ‘The Lark Ascending’ by V. Williams held a sentimental meaning to her and she always dreamt of listening to the piece live. Hannah helped us make this dream come true. It was such a magical moment.

We are looking forward to other visits from the students of the RNC through the summer.

Summer sporting moments

We joined with the nation cheering on the fantastic England team in the Euros. Wimbledon was celebrated, as always, with lashings of cream, strawberries and Pimms. Or should that be lashings of Pimms, strawberries and cream!!! Next up, the Olympics!
