Never a dull moment here at Astley. Our activities team ensure that residents always have something to look forward to and themed events are hugely popular.
Themed events for February and March
Some dates lend themselves to be themed such as Valentines and St Patricks Day, but we always go the extra mile to bring the fun and laughter.
The Astley Oscars
We brought the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to Astley with our very own Oscars ceremony. Our residents were thrilled to walk the red carpet to collect their awards. Wonderful to see everyone entering into the spirit of the day, glamming up for the occasion. The perfect reason for a spot of pampering, whether that be a manicure or visit from the hairdresser.
Awards included Best Dressed, Best Babysitter in town, Best Philosopher, Happiest Chap, Best Bookworm, Best Flower Arranger, Best Farmer, The Life and Soul of the Party, Best Villa Fan, and many more! All celebrated with our very own Oscar awards, certificates and fizz!
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day was a day of sharing, with a delicious meal with resident’s families and hand-made heart boxes of chocolates for all. We danced the afternoon away and sung along to our favourite love songs: Thanks to Steve who provided the entertainment, with our carer Ian on the mic, serenading our residents! With prosecco on ice and a delicious slice of Florentina’s heart-shaped cake, it was a really special day.
Our new Supper Club
One of our night nurse team, Jane Jones, has started a monthly supper club for residents. She baked homemade cakes and there was music and games and of course a few nightcaps! Sometimes its lovely to stay up into the evening for a bit of a party. Plus, a lovely lie in the next morning!
Fundraising for Comic Relief
Residents were still keen to have our fundraising day for Comic Relief, in spite of the increased worries of Coronavirus. We kept the event in house and themed it as a Slumber Party. Residents loved seeing all our staff in their pyjamas! Lots of fun games and activities and all for a good cause.
Hula Hula Hydration!
This week marks National Hydration week. We have been raising awareness of the importance of hydration, particularly with the elderly.
Staying hydrated ensures that the body can function properly and can defend itself more effectively against illness: an important reminder during this Covid-19 outbreak.
It has been fun making homemade lemonade with our residents and creating a Hawaiian themed tiki bar. Mocktails with an umbrella and straw, wearing straw skirts and flower garlands are surely the best way to stay hydrated!
Coming up!
We have lots of Easter themed events planned. Our glorious garden lends itself beautifully to an egg hunt! Our residents have been enjoying getting out again on recent sunny days. A good dose of fresh air, wrapped up warm and the sun on our faces is the perfect tonic.
