What a month of rain! Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by the flooding. We feel very fortunate to have been warm and dry and have had a busy February. There has been a lot of love and laughter – what with special birthday celebrations, Valentine’s Day and Pancake Day.

Love and laughter

Our wonderful resident Ruth celebrated her 105th birthday with a family party, champagne and cake and so many cards, including another one from The Queen. There was also a heart-melting moment when her twin great grandchildren came to visit and treated her to a manicure and hand massage. Just beautiful.

Ruth has lived in Kempsey most of her life and is very well known for managing the private swimming pool, that was attached to The Lawns, for 27 years, alongside her husband Bert. She is an inspirational lady whose philosophy for a long and happy life is A little bit of what you fancy does you good, drink lots of tea and don’t forget to laugh as much as possible”.

Love at the Lawns

We celebrated Valentine’s Day with a love and friendship cocktail afternoon. Our very own Love Bug visited, bestowing handmade knitted ladybird’s full of chocolates on each resident.

Congratulations to two of our team, Jane and Gemma who have completed their Peer Mentor Training. Starting a new job can be rather daunting, and our Peer Mentors are there to support new joiners and help them feel part of the team.

And laughter…

We had very mad Pancake Day. We dressed up both wheelchairs and willing residents and had races down the corridor! This has become a not to be missed annual event at The Lawns. There was quite a lot of cheating going on – take a look at our facebook page for some amusing videos! https://www.facebook.com/TheLawnsOfficial/

March and April events

We have lots going on throughout March and Easter events planned. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus risk, we will not be having any larger open events.  We are however be having a “Grand Raffle Draw” with tickets on sale from April, as we continue fundraising towards our Interactive Table.
