The Great British Care Awards is a fabulous annual event. It celebrates the hard work of all those in the care sector and recognises outstanding individuals.
This year we had two nominations from Newstead. We attended the West Midland Regional Care Awards ceremony in Birmingham, a glitzy black tie dinner dance. We celebrated with colleagues and other award finalists from Newstead House Nursing Home and Summerdyne Nursing Home, both part of the Heritage Manor Group of care homes.

Jan won the West Midlands Regional Great British Care Award 2018 for Palliative / End of Life Care.
Caring and supporting someone at the end of their life requires a very special and professional person. Jan demonstrates just that, not only to each individual but to their families too.
Jan, known as JJ to residents and their families at Newstead, has worked at Newstead since 1988. She has dedicated most of her working life to the care of residents and support of their families. She has been instrumental in Newstead House gaining accreditation with the Gold Standards Framework. This Framework is for the highest level of end of life care awarded annually to the top nursing homes in the country. Newstead House has held this accreditation since 2014 and just been awarded with it again in 2018.
Alison Ough, our home manager said “It is a privilege to work alongside JJ and she is an inspiration. We pride ourselves on the end of life care we provide, the support we give to relatives and our close liaison with the local palliative care team. It is wonderful that her dedication and commitment to caring for all our residents has been recognised at the Great British Care Awards ”

Zoltan Gidofalvi, our maintenance man at Newstead House
Zoltan received a Finalists Award in the Best Ancillary Worker category. This award recognises an excellent, person-centred service to clients, demonstrating dignity and respect though ancillary services.
Zoltan (known as Zolly to his friends and colleagues at Newstead) has worked with us since 2014. He loves his job and really enjoys getting things “just right” for the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and he can turn his hand to anything. He often solves problems before they occur. He is an absolute asset to our home. Recognition at the Care awards reflects his dedication and hard work.
