Cats, dogs and owls animal therapy

You could easily be mistaken for thinking that Newstead is transforming into Hogwarts, given the number of cats and owls that have visited us in March! Our residents have had a magical time experiencing animal therapy with Hereford Owl Rescue and Cats for Comfort. You can see from their faces in these pictures, what a success these events have been.

Hereford Owl Rescue

Hereford Owl Rescue have both wild and captive owls rescued from anywhere in the UK. Based in Hereford they brought along some of their feathered friends to meet our residents. They also talked about the rescue and rehabilitation, welfare and protection work they do. It was amazing to be so close to these enchanting birds. Our residents had the chance to hold them and stroke their feathers. The team from Owl Rescue, even took their owls to our residents in their rooms. The Barn Owl showed us his incredible wingspan and looked so majestic. It was a real treat and a truly memorable day for everyone.

Cats for Comfort

Thank you to Lynne from Cats for Comfort for introducing our residents to Mr Elliot Bigpaws and his other feline friends. These beautiful Maine coin cats provided comfort, serenity, beauty, and happiness. It was a delightful visit…..just purr-fect!

Pippa and Buddy

If cats and owls weren’t enough, it was a great thrill to have Britain’s Got Talent stars Pippa and Buddy come and sing for us. Buddy had lots of cuddles, from our residents. He showed off his singing skills with Pippa, entertaining the residents, even getting the audience to dress up as Elvis and then helping himself to Vanda’s cup of tea after all his hard work. Pippa has a beautiful voice and had everyone singing along, particularly to the wartime classic “We’ll Meet Again”. There is a fabulous video on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Newstead-nursing-home-1565744917066119/
