As the weather has become cooler, we have been enjoying autumn activities inside with the sun shining into our conservatory.
Harvest time to Halloween; autumn activities
Residents have picked all our tomatoes and we have a huge number. Unfortunately they refused to turn red and so we spent a rainy day making green tomato chutney. Delicious with cheese and crackers! And a lovely gift as we are thinking ahead to Christmas. Our apple tree is laden so we have been picking those too and the windfalls are loved by our chickens.
Scrabble Club is back after a short summer gap and it is also lovely to have a giant puzzle on the go. Residents are often drawn in and “Oh, I’ll just try to find a home for one piece” turns into a puzzle session! If anyone has some decent, large scale puzzles or photographic books they would like to donate we would love to receive!
We had a visit from Cllr Felicity Norman who wanted our residents’ thoughts on access to the Hereford Trail. In particular, how to make the trail more accessible for the elderly. To have their concerns and suggestions heard, meant a lot to our residents. They also took great delight in showing her our new garden path.
On the sunnier days, we have raked and sowed our wildflower seed in our garden revamp. Residents have really been enjoying the garden with their families and friends, which is wonderful to see. Thank you to everyone who has donated money or plants. We are most grateful.
Competition time for Halloween! Following on from our success last year we are having a Pumpkin Competition. Please carve or decorate a pumpkin and bring it into West Eaton by Friday 28th October. Our impartial residents will be the judges and the best two shall win a prize!
The end of an era at West Eaton
This month, we said farewell to Roddy as our home manager. He is embarking on a travel adventure and with the wonders of technology we are excited to be following his trip. He is leaving our home in the capable hands of Charmaine. She is stepping up from Deputy to our Home Manager and Hollie is our new Residents Services Manager.
An idea for a Christmas gift for our residents…
Not sure what the collective word is for silver haired beauties, but we have quite a few at West Eaton (and silver foxes). The residents enjoy visits from Paula our hairdresser and being pampered.
If you are stuck as to what to treat your loved one then Paula offers all sorts of packages for men and women. These include aromatherapy treatments. Please contact Rachel, out Lifestyle and Wellbeing lead for more information.
