Particularly after the lockdowns, our residents love to feel part of the community. Here are some of the summer and up and coming events we are involved with.
Kempsey Community Alice in Wonderland Garden Party
Residents threw themselves wholeheartedly into the Kempsey August Bank Holiday Alice in Wonderland garden party. You can’t have a Mad Hatter’s afternoon tea without some madness! So we decorated our home, all wore some crazy hats and ate jam tarts with the Queen of Hearts.
Check out our Facebook page for some fabulous photos. https://www.facebook.com/TheLawnsOfficial
The Pershore Plum Festival
The plum tarts for our Afternoon tea Mad Hatter event were made with plum jam. This was homemade by our residents. as part of their celebration of the Pershore Plum Festival. http://www.pershoreplumfestival.org.uk/
Our area is famed for fruit growing and the Pershore Plum Fayre is an annual event. We had our own celebration, tasting different varieties of plum and making our own jam. This conjured lots of memories for our residents.
Supporting charities
Next, we are supporting the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event held at St Mary’s Church on 23rd September. This is a cause very close to our hearts.
September is also National Alzheimer’s month. Did you know you can buy Forget-Me-Not seed packs from the online Alzheimer’s shop to create a living memory? They give a carpet of beautiful blue flowers.https://shop.alzheimers.org.uk/gifts/gifts-for-her/In-Memory-forget-me-not-seed-pack
Our festive community knitting project
Dare we mention Christmas in September!! We are planning ahead as we like to create handmade gifts for our residents to give their loved ones.
Thank you to the knitters in our community who are helping us with our festive project. We need approx. 200 green knitted squares 8″ x 8″ (40 stitches on size 8/4mm needles) to help our Knit and Natter group. Whilst we enjoy both knitting and nattering, we aren’t the fastest of knitters and need your help to reach our target by 1st December.
