What a mixed bag of weather! But we have been getting up to lots of fun antics here. Making the most of being outside when we can and some in lounge activities too.
Hasn’t it been amazing watching the Olympics! We were in complete awe of all the athletes. Feeling inspired, some of our residents have formed The Astley Darts Team and have been putting in the practice, honing their skills. Such focus and concentration to try to hit the bullseye and win first prize! And in the spirit of the Olympics, we also had a Japanese themed weekend.
It would have been a bit of a stretch for our residents to tackle a marathon! But we have been out and about walking in our local area. A visit to see the horses is a favourite. And we have been enjoying the garden on the sunnier days, playing garden games and making bird feeders from egg boxes. Tom Daley’s knitting and crochet has been a talking point and inspired some of our ladies to pick up their needles.
Any excuse for a themed event!
We did have a laugh celebrating National Shark Week, of all things. There seems to be a National Day or Week for everything! We learnt about sharks and, of course, watched the iconic movie Jaws. It transpires you are more likely to be trampled by a cow than eaten by a shark.
Lots of giggles when a shark appeared at our BBQ! It was in fact Maddie, our fantastic Lifestyle and Wellbeing Co-ordinator, in an inflatable shark costume. As always going the extra mile to bring happiness and laughter to our home. Our residents soon saw the shark off with their water pistol antics!
Bake me a cake as fast as you can…
Residents are hoping for the launch of The Great British Bake Off soon, but in the meantime we had The Great Astley Bake Off. Check out our facebook page for a fantastic video. https://www.facebook.com/astleyhallheritage/videos/1129577184233616
Residents loved baking together vintage cookies and chocolate chip cookies. We shared memories of baking with our Mums and for our children. How many amazing cakes our residents have created over the years. And a few baking disasters and fads, mainly from the 1970s! The smell was amazing and the taste even better.
Next month it’s the big Macmillan coffee morning and Alzheimer’s Awareness month, which we always like to support. And any excuse for a celebration – there is National Bacon day on the 4th and International Talk Like a Pirate Day on the 19th!
