At Newstead, we are taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch. This national event is run by the RSPB early each year and you can submit results until 16 February. It is the world’s largest wildlife survey and has been going on for over 40 years. For more information and how to take part click here https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/
Our garden bird watch activities
TWIT TWOO!! Who are you? Screeched the owls. Whilst doing our garden bird watch we spotted pigeons, magpie’s, crows and wait for it………. squirrels. The small garden birds didn’t stand a chance, but it amused our very own bird spotters with their antics in order to steal all the bird seed. Happy Bird (or should we say Squirrel!) Spotting folks!
The bird theme has inspired a number of crafting sessions. We have made bird fortune tellers and winter scene tissue paper collages.
Angie from Hereford Gardening Therapy also visited to help make pinecone bird feeders, filled with peanut butter. They were irresistible to those pesky squirrels!!
Other activities at Newstead
After all the Christmas festivities and over indulgence, we have been getting fit this New Year. Leah from G Fitness has been putting us through our paces, with seated exercise classes. The stretchy bands are a great way to help with leg and arm exercises, giving that bit of support as we flex. Also the large balls help with strength exercises.
Our vocal chords have also been having a work out with Singing for Health and Happiness classes. Singing the classics is always uplifting and some fun singing exercises too.
