Keeping an active mind

Memory loss does not have to be an inevitable part of ageing. It has been shown that if you keep an active mind and try new things, you can maintain brain connections. This can delay the outset of dementia.

At The Lawns it is Marion who leads the way in our regular group crossword sessions. She has always loved crosswords and this hobby is no doubt attributable to her having such a sharp mind.

The brain is made up of thousands of nerve cells with connections between them. Mentally stimulating activities strengthen these cells and their connections. We believe that the brain needs a workout as much as the body and keeping your mind active helps everyone feel more alert and happier.

Our residents regularly enjoy crossword puzzles, Sudoku and word games, but it is crosswords that remain Marion’s firm favourite!

AgeUK has some good advice on keeping an active mind. https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/health-wellbeing/mind-body/staying-sharp/looking-after-your-thinking-skills/exercise-for-the-brain/
