Many an afternoon is spent at Summerdyne sharing life stories and memories and recently we devoted an afternoon to reminiscing about rural live and farming, as many residents come from agricultural backgrounds.
We borrowed farming artefacts from the local museum including a bird scarer, butter bats, sheep shears, lots of photos and a beautiful replica of a milking smock.
It was wonderful to be shown by our residents Frank and Roger how some of the tools were used and to hear their stories. Many fond memories of life on the farm were shared and we discussed now machinery has developed over time to make farming easier, although now it is often on a larger scale.
Everyone enjoyed the afternoon, which was accompanied by country and western music from the 1940s and ’50s and cider sampling with crusty bread and cheeses.
A great afternoon of memories.
