We have started this year’s fundraising project and are rewarding our team – giving causes and individuals the recognition they deserve.

Certificates of achievement

Our staffing team are all so dedicated. This year, each month, every team member can vote for who they think deserves recognition. Who that month made a difference and went above and beyond. Our home manager, Mel awarded the first Certificate of Achievement and a bottle of fizz to Flo. Everyone agreed that she is an exceptional carer and shows such support and understanding to residents and the team.

2022 fundraising

We have kicked off our 2022 fundraising for The Guide Dogs for the Blind, by starting on our handmade gifts to sell. Crafting with a purpose! Residents have really thrown themselves into the project. Keep an eye out for the finished articles on our Facebook page.

Music Appreciation and History Group

Our music appreciation mornings are proving to be very popular with residents. We started with the composer Luis Bacalov’s movie soundtrack Hidden Moon. We talk about the melody, how it makes us feel, the instruments used and the memories it conjures. Other mornings we listened to composers Andre Rieu and John Barry.

A A Milne was the subject of History group in recognition of his birthday and wonderful books. We reminisced about reading Winnie the Pooh and laughed about the characters in 100 Acre Wood. No gloomy Eeyore moments here!

And a visit from two incredibly large fluffy Thumpers too – never underestimate the power of animals and the joy they bring!

Also, for Chinese New Year we learnt about ancient customs, traditions and our Chinese spirit animal for our birth year. And a delicious Chinese buffet and some fortune cookies.

Ruth celebrates her 107th birthday!

Huge congratulations to our lovely Ruth Thomas who turns 107 years old on 17th February. After celebrating her birthday last year during a COVID lockdown, she is celebrating in style this year with family and friends. She is a much loved Kempsey resident, well-known for running The Queen’s Head pub with her husband before they then took over the Kempsey swimming pool. Even through the last 2 years of COVID Ruth has kept her smile and brilliant sense of humour. The birthday cards are already flooding in and we are all hugely looking forward to her big day.

Looking ahead…

Looking ahead, we have Mothering Sunday in March and also Nutrition and Hydration Week. A good time to look at the importance of hydration and the signs of dehydration. And an excuse to mix some mocktails and our signature cocktail – The Kempsey Kiss!

With the mild weather we have been wrapping up and getting out and about. Some lovely walks to the church and to see the snowdrops. Funny to think that this time last year we were under a blanket of snow!

The transformation of the regency wing of our home is nearly complete. The finishing touches are being given to our 6 new residents rooms. We have a new hair salon and social spaces. Watch this space for photos!
