It’s been a brilliant summer here at Summerdyne, with the highlight being our Wild West Summer Fayre!

Wild West Summer Fayre

It was great to have a theme for the summer. In the run up to the fayre, residents threw themselves into making decorations and preparing for the day. The weather was temperamental as ever, but so many friends and family came along to support the event. We had live music from Huw Knight and a DJ set from Blue Lotus. Magician and entertainer Alex Crawford was a big hit with all generations. There were games, BBQ and refreshments, a cake stall, tombola and raffle. Thank you for all the donations to the raffle and to our team, who supported residents on the day and went the extra mile. We raised over £600 for our resident’s fund!

Our next big event will be for Halloween. Again. there will be crafting and activities in the run up to our Halloween party on the 31st October. Pumpkin carving and decorating for our pumpkin carving contest. Details to follow! Plus Halloween crochet spiders and trick and treats.

A walk on the wild side

Summer days means day trips in our mini bus. Some residents headed to West Midlands Safari Park to meet all the animals. Such a long time since some had visited the zoo and the rhinos and giraffes were the favourites. Lots of reminiscing and memories made.

Local visits to the Riverside Cafe in Bewdley are always enjoyed. Coffee and cake in the sunshine and watching the activities on the river.

And back home, for residents who cannot venture out, we brought the holidays to them. Our armchair travel log is growing! It was a visit to Wales this summer, bringing back memories of holidays and for some of our residents, their home country.

Sport and singing

Its definitely been a summer of sport, kicking off with the Euros. Residents have also loved folowing the Olympics. Inspiration for some of our weekly fitness classes.

Our singing club have been in full voice. Many renditions of the classics such as Vera Lynn and Elvis! We have had new entertainers vist this summer. Glam Sparrow are a fabulous duo singing rock and roll and pop. The Worcester Salvation Army Band also played for us – it felt like first night of the Proms! Coming up in October we have JDR back for more live entertainment.

In other news

A very bittersweet celebration this week as we said goodbye to our lovely Rose. She has worked at our home for many years and will be missed. We wish her the very best in retirement and good wishes for the future. We had a little party with a few surprises, gifts and a lot of appreciation.

Last month Team Summerdyne took on the Snowdon Sunrise Challenge to raise money for National Activity Providers Association’s ’Living The Dream’ fund. Thanks to everyone’s support, we were able to raise an amazing £1,214. Thank you to everyone who donated and well done to our fabulous team for completing the challenge.

We’ve recently set up our Community Jigsaw Puzzle. Everyone has been enjoying it so much that we’re running out of puzzles! If you or anyone you know has any puzzles lying around collecting dust, please drop them off. You can swap them for something new at our revamped Book & Jigsaw Exchange at the front of the home.
