We have a full diary of events and activities at Newstead. Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to this Spring.

A snapshot of Spring events

Magicians! Alex & George, a father and son magician act, entertained us on a beautiful sunny day. We watched carefully and still had no clue how they did those tricks. We also had magical entertainment from AG Magicians. A brilliant show with funny props – we didn’t want to give our silly hats back! And rounded off with ice creams in the garden.

Falconry! We had an absolutely INCREDIBLE visit from Wye Valley Falconry. Residents loved hearing about the birds and their stories, as well as the history behind them. We met seven members of the Wye Valley Falconry team (including Luke, the falconer).

D-Day commemorations and celebrations. What better way to evoke that wartime spirit than a visit from the Dolloway Dancers. Residents shared memories of the war – awe inspiring tales of courage and resilience.

The Newstead Arms. Our most recent pub afternoon had tropical themed cocktails and mocktails. We had a brief sojourn outdoors for a quiz on the patio between rain showers. Then back indoors to enjoy the beach themed music playlist and catch up with everyone.

Lets go shopping! Thanks to Steve’s Pop Up Shop, residents who cannot go out to shop, can browse from the comfort of home. He had a great selection of clothes including natural fabrics like cotton, and locally made items. We have pencilled in another visit before Christmas!

Days out! Sometimes its lovely to have a one to one adventure with a resident. Just lovely to have a day trip with Dot to Hereford town centre. a browse in the shops, especially the book shop and a spot of lunch.

A special delivery. Carole and Bob brought us a wonderful bench to commemorate Elsie, who recently passed away. It was kindly gifted to Newstead by Elsie’s family in her memory. We miss her greatly, but look forward to sitting and sharing memories about her in our garden.

A snapshot of regular activities

Fitness Classes. Ozzy from Gfitness has been putting residents through their paces. Keeping it fun as always. A parachute one week, then swing ball in the conservatory and then balloon tennis. Everyone was desperate to show off their racket skills – we are sure to have more of that in Wimbledon week.

Gardening Club. Lovely to be out in the garden potting up sweet peas with the help of Hereford Growing Point. Popping peas from their shells certainly brought back memories.

Book Club. Herefordshire Libraries have provided a range of large print books. Perfect for our book worms!

Crafting. We had an amazing workshop with Sandra Soanes and her vintage crafts . Residents tried hand weaving with fabulous results. We are also putting together the artwork for our 2025 Calendar! The theme is music and some of the art works are based on favourite songs.

Gaming. There have been a few rainy afternoons whiled away with some pretty intense Scrabbling! Someone’s brought their own board to sneak some extra practice in! There was some serious triple word score wizardry going on – we had to get the dictionary out!
