We are celebrating having been awarded a “Top 20” Care homes award for the West Midlands from www.carehome.co.uk We also have scored 10 out of 10 based on independent reviews on their website. We are so proud of our team who work so hard in enabling residents to life their lives to the full. It is wonderful to receive such terrific reviews and this recognition.
Celebrating special occasions
We thought it would be lovely to make each of our lady residents a lip balm for Mother’s Day. With the help of The Crafting Cartel and residents Ian and Doris, we made up some little pots of grapefruit lip balm. They smelt good enough to eat! We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea for Mothering Sunday. Thank you to so many families for joining us. Also thank you to the West Eaton carers for making it all run smoothly and Emlyn, Mickey and Libby in the kitchen for putting on a fabulous spread! Hilary and her flutist friend made it that extra bit special. A wonderful day too to be celebrating Mildred’s 99th birthday!
Easter came slightly early with the children from Ivington school visiting to sing Easter inspired songs for us. Fantastic performances all round with some brave duets too. Thank you to the school staff for making it possible and we hope to see you again soon.
There was plenty of Easter themed craft. from cards, to paper chains, pompom animals and our Easter tree. It was lovely to have Veronica, the daughter of one of our residents, helping us. There was also Easter baking with a delicious Simnel cake, The Baptist church visited for a church service and of course the Easter bunny bestowed lots of chocolate eggs on residents! With all the left over chocolate eggs we have made rocky road chocolate biscuit cake.
Our Easter eggs were real chick eggs this year. Through the Incredible Eggs Scheme https://www.incredibleeggs.co.uk/ we looked after the eggs in an incubator and then day by day watched them slowly hatch. We were all celebrating the arrival of 7 chicks out of the 8 eggs. We wrongly assumed they would be yellow but they are brown! It has been fascinating watching them get more confident, learn to swim and enjoy cuddles!
Bring on the summer!
Where is the sunshine! Sian from Herefordshire Growing Point came in to help us plant up our peas, plus some potatoes, sweet peas and sunflowers. Once the cold snap is over we will be ready to plant!
On a dry day and with a bit of blue sky, we took some residents on a road trip. The destination was Shobdon Airfield for plane spotting, with coffee and cake. So much fun.
Our residents have also decided on their Summer fundraiser. We are still planning and developing our sensory garden area but are focusing our next fundraising efforts on an interactive touchscreen table. Residents will be able to use this in the lounge or it can be moved from room to room.
A date for your diaries: We are planning our Summer Picnic for residents, families and friends on Saturday 29th July! More details to follow.
