Preparations are underway for the party of the year at The Lawns! Events are always a joint collaboration with residents and our Lifestyle and Wellbeing team. We sat down together and decided on how our Jubilee celebrations would be – from the food, music, entertainment and decorations. Residents have thrown themselves into everything with gusto.
As a warm up to the main event, we celebrated the Queen’s birthday with an afternoon tea. All our finest china and silver teapots and scones, with jam then cream (always jam then cream at The Lawns!)
We dug out our Union Jack flags and vintage bunting. One resident has kindly offered to iron the many reams of it, so it hangs perfectly for the Jubilee weekend.
Then, aprons on and sleeves rolled up, for some crafting. We have created giant sentry’s from plant pots, which are now pride of place in our reception atrium.
Two residents are hand-making invitations, for every resident, to our street party fun day on the 4th June. There will be a red, white and blue theme, with prizes for the best costumes.
The day will begin with our Right Royal Quiz (with bucks fizz!) followed by a street party buffet lunch and fairground games in our garden, with an ice cream parlour and Gin and Pimms Bar.
Our Royal Scarecrow Competition
We are delighted to be hosting, back by popular demand, our Scarecrow Competition, open to all in our community. The theme of this years scarecrow festival is ‘Royalty’ which covers more than you realise e.g. Elvis “The King”, King Kong, The Queen of Hearts and so much more. Prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in each category. Come and join in the Jubilee fun. See poster below for details or email [email protected] if you would like more information.
Residents have also put together a Royal memorabilia display for everyone to see, which evoked a lot of memories and has been a joy to help create.
Community links are so special for our residents and team and everyone is looking forward to the Platinum Picnic Party. Then, we will be cheering on the wheelbarrow racers, as the route passes our home on Sunday 5th. You may recall our Santa Sleigh being spotted in the village last Christmas – well, keep a look out for our very own Royal carriage with our smiling and waving Royalty!
