The Lawns is in the heart of the beautiful village of Kempsey and uniquely offers residential care through to specialist nursing care, giving a continuity of exceptional care for residents in a warm and friendly environment. We offer day care and respite care for additional support and our care is across generations, supporting young adults through to more elderly residents.
The Lawns Residential and Nursing Home is in heart of the village of Kempsey and has an excellent reputation within the local community for it's outstanding care and warm and friendly atmosphere.
Our purpose built extension (which opened in August 2018) has 20 rooms, all en-suite, with the ground floor rooms having their own gardens. A stunning glass atrium sensory garden links the extension to the refurbished regency manor house. We have a number of social areas for residents to enjoy, a bar and an open plan kitchen dedicated to residents, so they can bake, make tea and coffee, should they wish too.
Our food is locally sourced, cooked from fresh ingredients, often home-grown and tailored to individuals’ wishes and needs. Our residents have designed and implemented a garden scheme with a wildlife area, patio seating and a veggie plot and greenhouse.
In 2019, I became Home Manager at The Lawns and am proud to be working with such a dedicated team who have worked really hard to make the home one of the best in Worcestershire. The home specialises in End of Life Care and, has held the Gold Standard Framework Award for End of Life Care since 2013. We have just been awarded the GSF Platinum accreditation for 2019 and were awarded by the GSF 2nd place in their Care Home of the Year.
Running a nursing home can be very hard work at times but it also brings plentiful rewards; being able to look after our residents and their families to the best of our ability is a privilege.
I trained in Worcestershire in 1985 and worked in the NHS until 1998. I then managed a dual registered home in Stratford Upon Avon until 2001 and from there, I went to work for a National Care provider becoming their Registered Manager and Head of Clinical Care. I worked in that position for 17 years before becoming Home Manager at The Lawns.
Being in the nursing for 35 years, I bring a wealth of experience in all sectors of nursing and have a very hands on approach. I live locally and have a family, including young grand children, and am well aware of the pressures that surround families and carers. My door is always open, so feel free to pop in for a chat or give me a call anytime. My direct dial is 01905 816412.
"My husband became a resident of The Lawns in March 2020. The Lawns staff were extremely kind and caring, helping him settle and have continued throughout his stay. The manager will always find the time to help any queries I have, and she runs the home together with her staff in a professional, efficient, but caring way. Both she and all the staff have continued to try to enable as much contact as possible for the residents and their families. A great nursing home."PT, wife of resident, July 2020
"Our daughter, aged 43 years, was cared for at The Lawns for a period of 16 months before passing away in December 2020. She suffered from a rare degenerative brain disease. We found the care provided by everyone at The Lawns to be excellent. The staff were all very caring and showed considerable compassion when caring for our daughter. "AH, mother of resident, January 2021
"My mum became a resident in September 2020. She was an end of life resident. The care, kindness and overall treatment given to mum as well as myself and dad was fantastic. We were able to see mum every day through covid and during lockdown. Those visits meant an awful lot. Management were there at the end also and the support was lovely."RH, daughter of resident, January 2021
"The manager and her team at The Lawns Nursing home have transformed my mother’s life, since she moved in August 2020. My mother was in another nursing home where her needs were not being met, which was having a huge impact on her mental health and wellbeing. My mother suffers from a number of medical issues, including stage 4 COPD, Diabetes and Dementia. When she moved in, she wasn't eating proper meals, her blood sugars were out of control, she was suffering from anxiety and generally felt unwell all of the time. Eight months on, she now eats three meals a day, her appetite has improved, her blood sugars are stable, she feels a lot better and is happy!"LW, daughter of resident, April 2021
"Mum was very comfortable and was having wonderful care from all the staff. Sadly, mum faded quickly and thankfully we were able to be with her when she passed away. We will always be grateful for the care and kindness shown to our mum in her last days."ST, daughter of resident, January 2021
CQC are the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
CQC make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage us to make sure we are providing the best care possible.
Like all Heritage Manor homes, we have dedicated staff who focus on providing a varied programme of events throughout the week, both on a group and one-to-one basis. We like to help our residents carry on their favourite activities wherever possible, but also to introduce new experiences. Our activities staff have a varied background, from organising large musical events to beauty therapy, and they find something for everyone.
The role of our activities coordinators extends to well-being and lifestyle: finding out what makes residents happy on a day to day basis, their likes and dislikes, hobbies and interests. Ensuring they feel happy and relaxed and can do all the things they would do at home, at their Lawns home.
We have a full-time activities programme run by our activities organisers. These range from beauty treatments and hairdressing to chair-based exercise classes, live entertainment, pop-up shops, theme days, crafting, themed super evenings and art and gardening clubs.
We always encourage friends and family to take part in our social activities, and are keen to help arrange birthday parties and special events. We also celebrate Christmas and Easter, hold an annual Summer fete, have firework displays and hold events to which all are invited. We also encourage residents and staff into the garden as much as possible.
