Abberton Manor is a magnificent Queen Anne Manor House set in attractively landscaped gardens and woodland with beautiful views over the Roman River valley, situated 3 miles south of Colchester.

Abberton Manor has an enviable reputation for providing professional nursing care in a happy and friendly environment. It is highly rated for both the quality of its care and the warmth of its staff, many of whom have spent a number of years at the home.
The manor provides accommodation for just 26 residents in a comfortable, secure, relaxed, and homely environment in which their care, well being and comfort is of prime importance. The home offers both single and shared accommodation, the majority of which is en-suite, and all refurbished to a high standard. The home has been furnished with its Queen Anne origins in mind, and residents particularly enjoy the extensive lawns and gardens surrounding the manor.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and pictures to personalise their accommodation, but furniture can be supplied if preferred.
Two characterful lounges provide a warm, communal area for residents and their visitors to enjoy. Separate dining rooms promote meal times as a sociable activity. Family and friends are encouraged to visit at any time, and join in with the activities or mealtimes.
I became Home Manager at Abberton Manor In March 2021 and I feel privileged to work with such an amazing team, who have worked really hard to make the home one of the best within the area. Our home specialises in End of Life Care and has held the Gold Standard Framework Award for End of Life Care since 2017 and also the Best Community Engagement Award at Essex Care Awards.
The support forged by Abberton through the FaNs Network and the local community is invaluable. It enables residents to live their lives to the full and to stay young at heart, with entertainment and the companionship from all generations.
I have over 30 years’ experience within healthcare, after completing my nurse training I spent twenty years with the NHS, before moving to the private sector, ten of which have been working as deputy manager and Home manager. I am and always will be dedicated to the needs of the people I care for. We have a great team of nurses and care staff here at Abberton, who make sure that all residents are cared for in a holistic manner. The aim is to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy and I am always available to talk to the residents and their families.
I find the job rewarding and at times demanding but I get a sense of pleasure when I know we have achieved what we need to.
I grew up in Essex, where I met my wife Wendy, we have two boys and seven grandchildren and hobbies include fishing (when I can!)
We have long-standing and dedicated nursing teams in our homes, with many years of professional experience between them. This has enabled us in a number of our homes to have achieved the highest accreditation for nursing care, the Gold Standard Framework.
Abberton Manor was awarded with the Gold Standards Framework in 2017 and also the Best Community Engagement Award at Essex Care Awards. This year we have been awarded the Best Nursing and Personal Care Home in Essex by Global Health and Pharma. We are also regional winners at The 2018 Great British Care Awards.
"Came to see my Grandad for a visit in the garden. Brilliantly organised, the staff were very helpful and brilliant throughout the whole process. Never seen my grandad so happy in such positive homely environment. I would highly recommend Abberton Manor to everyone."TH, September 2020
"I have been a resident here since the new year of 2019. The staff have always been professional, friendly and helpful. Our kitchen staff works very hard - ensuring that food is prepared in the home - not prepared elsewhere and carried in. Laundry is dealt with quickly and efficiently. With registered nurses always on duty, advice and care are always available. This is far better than I ever imagine a home might be."BE, resident September 2020
"The team at Abberton Manor all do an amazing job caring for Mum. They are all very friendly, caring and work incredibly hard to support Mum and make her comfortable at this difficult time in her life. We are very grateful and have nothing but admiration for what they all do."RL, son of resident, October 2020
"Always a lovely, friendly, inviting environment. Very homely, caring staff and management are very helpful. Definitely would recommend to others looking to put their relatives into a real home from home."BS, daughter of resident, September 2020
"My father is terminally ill and my elderly mother could no longer cope. He wanted to go into the hospice but they had no space so he agreed to try Abberton Manor. We are so pleased with the level of care he has received and he is very happy. The manager has been excellent and so helpful, she and her team have gone the extra mile to make my dad feel comfortable and at home."CK, daughter of resident, February 2021
