Life is for living but how each of us choses to live our lives is a very personal thing....
Throughout the lockdown with Covid-19, the well-being of our residents has been of huge importance to us. They look...
Abberton Manor has an enviable reputation for providing professional nursing care in a happy and friendly environment. It is highly rated for both the quality of its care and the warmth of its staff, many of whom have spent a number of years at the home.
The manor provides accommodation for just 26 residents in a comfortable, secure, relaxed, and homely environment in which their care, well being and comfort is of prime importance. The home offers both single and shared accommodation, the majority of which is en-suite, and all refurbished to a high standard. The home has been furnished with its Queen Anne origins in mind, and residents particularly enjoy the extensive lawns and gardens surrounding the manor.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and pictures to personalise their accommodation, but furniture can be supplied if preferred.
Two characterful lounges provide a warm, communal area for residents and their visitors to enjoy. Separate dining rooms promote meal times as a sociable activity. Family and friends are encouraged to visit at any time, and join in with the activities or mealtimes.
I became Home Manager at Abberton Manor In March 2020 and am proud to be working with such a dedicated team who have worked really hard to make the home one of the best within the area. Our home specialises in End of Life Care and, has held the Gold Standard Framework Award for End of Life Care since 2017, and also the Best Community Engagement Award at Essex Care Awards.
Having been a nurse for forty years, and a specialist adviser to the CQC, for the past three years, I bring a wealth of experience in all sectors of nursing and have a very hands on approach. I live locally and have a family, including young grandchildren. Abberton Manor is an extension to my family and I feel very privileged to work with such an amazing team.
I trained in Havering in 1979 and worked in the NHS until 1991. I then moved into the independent sector undertaking nursing Diploma in breast cancer and successfully completing a BSc Hons in cancer/palliative care at the Royal Marsden London. I have commissioned Breast Cancer services and oncology units during my years as a specialist nurse, and have held senior nurse manager positions. Following forty years within the NHS and acute independent sector I moved into social care, which I find extremely rewarding. Running a nursing home can be very hard work at times but it also brings plentiful rewards; being able to look after our residents and their families to the best of our ability is a privilege.
With the help of all the dedicated staff and volunteers at Abberton, I hope to make sure that our home keeps its warm, family atmosphere. The support forged by Abberton through the FaNs Network and the local community is invaluable. It enables residents to live their lives to the full and to stay young at heart, with entertainment and the companionship from all generations
I am passionate about maintaining the excellent work done here at Abberton and strive to ensure that the residents continue to feel as if it is their home and not our place of work. I believe in care, not just for residents, but also for their families, who can join with events and activities and speak to me and the team whenever they wish.
We have long-standing and dedicated nursing teams in our homes, with many years of professional experience between them. This has enabled us in a number of our homes to have achieved the highest accreditation for nursing care, the Gold Standard Framework.
Abberton Manor was awarded with the Gold Standards Framework in 2017 and also the Best Community Engagement Award at Essex Care Awards. This year we have been awarded the Best Nursing and Personal Care Home in Essex by Global Health and Pharma. We are also regional winners at The 2018 Great British Care Awards.
CQC are the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
CQC make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage us to make sure we are providing the best care possible.
Like all Heritage Manor homes, Abberton Manor’s dedicated staff do their upmost to ensure that residents get the most they can from life.
A full-time activities programme run by a dedicated activities organiser provides a varied line-up of events catering for both groups and individuals, with activities ranging from beauty treatments and gardening, to trips out and keeping bees. Input from local schools, theatres and churches ensure that there is something for everyone to get involved in.
