The Lawns is in the heart of the beautiful village of Kempsey and uniquely offers residential care through to specialist nursing care, giving a continuity of exceptional care for residents in a warm and friendly environment. We offer day care and respite care for additional support and our care is across generations, supporting young adults through to more elderly residents.
The Lawns Residential and Nursing Home is in heart of the village of Kempsey and has an excellent reputation within the local community for it's outstanding care and warm and friendly atmosphere.
Our purpose built extension (which opened in August 2018) has 22 rooms, all en-suite, with the ground floor residential rooms having their own gardens. A stunning glass atrium sensory garden links the extension to the refurbished regency manor house. We have a number of social areas for residents to enjoy, a bar and an open plan kitchen dedicated to residents, so they can bake, make tea and coffee, should they wish to. In April 2022 we completed a fully renovation of the manor house part of our home. This includes 6 new residential bedroom suites and a refurbishment of the nursing floor to create a further nursing room. We have new social areas and a glorious conservatory.
Our food is locally sourced, cooked from fresh ingredients, often home-grown and tailored to individuals’ wishes and needs. Our residents have designed and implemented a garden scheme with a wildlife area, patio seating and a veggie plot and greenhouse.
In 2019, I became Home Manager at The Lawns and am proud to be working with such a dedicated team who have worked really hard to make the home one of the best in Worcestershire. The home specialises in End of Life Care and, has held the Gold Standard Framework Award for End of Life Care since 2013. We have just been awarded the GSF Platinum accreditation for 2019 and were awarded by the GSF 2nd place in their Care Home of the Year.
Running a nursing home can be very hard work at times but it also brings plentiful rewards; being able to look after our residents and their families to the best of our ability is a privilege.
I trained in Worcestershire in 1985 and worked in the NHS until 1998. I then managed a dual registered home in Stratford Upon Avon until 2001 and from there, I went to work for a National Care provider becoming their Registered Manager and Head of Clinical Care. I worked in that position for 17 years before becoming Home Manager at The Lawns.
Being in the nursing for 35 years, I bring a wealth of experience in all sectors of nursing and have a very hands on approach. I live locally and have a family, including young grand children, and am well aware of the pressures that surround families and carers. My door is always open, so feel free to pop in for a chat or give me a call anytime. My direct dial is 01905 816412.
" am so grateful that I managed to get a place for Mum at The Lawns, as not a day passes when I don’t thank my lucky stars that when I rang back in February 2021, the home manager said the words “Yes we do have a room available”. Nobody chooses to put their much-loved parent in a residential home but when there is literally no other option, there is nowhere else I would rather my mum be than at The Lawns. I totally respect what each and every member of staff does every single day. Mum has done so many different things which she would never normally have done. A particular member of staff and her team are fantastic. I know that Mum is looked after and she is loved and cared for. When mum was really poorly and in hospital with Covid for two weeks on oxygen and I couldn’t get to visit, I asked if someone could visit – they did and I have the photos to prove it. A heartfelt “Thank you” to each and every one of the members of The Lawn team. "WP. daughter of resident, September 2023
"I write as a retired Professor of Medicine with long experience in clinical care. The treatment of my wife has been exemplary in every respect. So much so that when she attended the hospital for a review following the excision of a tumour the surgeon and nursing sister both said that the total care including nursing was so good at The Lawns, that they would with confidence, discharge my wife for the care home to continue management of the wound as it healed, with no more for the hospital to follow up. "DL, husband of resident, October 2023
"In the 9 months my mum has lived at The Lawns, she has been cared for and looked after in an excellent manner. The staff and management are caring, considerate, friendly, and approachable to both the friends and residents. Mum chats daily to carers and they always take her wishes into account and were there to comfort and support her when her brother recently passed away. Any medical issues are addressed and resolved and the family is contacted when necessary. The daily program of activities and outings is varied and brings laughter and run to those wishing to participate. I would recommend the Lawns to other people in an instant. Thank you! "SF, daughter of resident, October 2023
"The Lawns is a lovely inclusive environment where Mum has been made to feel very welcome, is well cared for and treated with respect. the staff truly do live by the mantra that they work in the resident's home. The rooms are well cared for and beautifully clean. As guests, we are always warmly welcomed. There are numerous activities to engage residents which are well prepared and delivered. The manager ensures that standards remain high. "SB, daughter of resident, October 2023
CQC are the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
CQC make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage us to make sure we are providing the best care possible.
Like all Heritage Manor homes, we have dedicated staff who focus on providing a varied programme of events throughout the week, both on a group and one-to-one basis. We like to help our residents carry on their favourite activities wherever possible, but also to introduce new experiences. Our activities staff have a varied background, from organising large musical events to beauty therapy, and they find something for everyone.
The role of our activities coordinators extends to well-being and lifestyle: finding out what makes residents happy on a day to day basis, their likes and dislikes, hobbies and interests. Ensuring they feel happy and relaxed and can do all the things they would do at home, at their Lawns home.
We have a full-time activities programme run by our activities organisers. These range from beauty treatments and hairdressing to chair-based exercise classes, live entertainment, pop-up shops, theme days, crafting, themed super evenings and art and gardening clubs.
We always encourage friends and family to take part in our social activities, and are keen to help arrange birthday parties and special events. We also celebrate Christmas and Easter, hold an annual Summer fete, have firework displays and hold events to which all are invited. We also encourage residents and staff into the garden as much as possible.
