If ever there was a Christmas song for Astley it would be “Dec the halls”. Residents love the run up to the big day, and we are decorating our home and residents’ rooms. Residents have gathered holly and fir cones from the garden and every branch of every Christmas tree is baubled and tinsled!

For all Christmas events please call us or email our Lifestyle and Wellbeing Team lead Allison, [email protected] But, here is a snapshot of our festive plans……

Dec the halls…..fa, la, la, la, la, la…..!

Music is a hugely important to us all year round, but especially at Christmas time! We have lots of entertainers visiting, including our regular music therapy sessions with Ray Mytton. He helped us to practice some carols, such as Silent Night and Little Donkey. Ray, is back with us on the 20th, with a selection of carols and old favourites. Jeanette has also visited and encourages requests and joining in. She will be singing at our Christmas Party. A big thank you to Kim who also visited and helped set the mood with a festive sing-a-long. As one of our residents says “The most important thing is to enjoy yourself and have fun”

Residents love their time with the Debutots – the Autumn themed session was wonderful with lots of singing and dancing, crunching leaves and blowing bubbles. They were back in November and we can’t wait to share with them the magic and excitement of Christmas.

It is very special for us to have these close bonds with nursery groups and schools. Astley Nursery visited in November for a nursery rhyme themed session. Astley Primary School joined us for Remembrance and are visiting in December for Christmas Crafting. Plus, we have the children from St Bart’s Primary School visiting on 12th December for our Carol Service.

A massive THANK YOU to all the children and staff at Hallow C of E Primary School who invited us along to a special performance of their Nativity play. The children were absolutely spectacular and their singing was beautiful. Two of our residents went along and really enjoyed the experience. We left feeling all Christmassy.

Other festive news!

Our Ladies Pamper Day was on 4th December – a full day of spa treatments, pampering, relaxation and treats, so everyone can look glamorous for Christmas. Thank you to our lovely hairdresser, Alison, who visits our dedicated salon every fortnight. She has also been on hand to spruce up our gents for Christmas. Salon vouchers with Alison make great Christmas gifts. Please ask at our reception.

We are decorating T-shirts for Christmas Jumper Day and baking all the traditional favourites. We are working on a new routine with Kim and Mo from the Dance to Health team. Festive themed, of course! We shall be showcasing this nearer to Christmas. We are reading at Book Club over the festive period Christmas Ghost Stories, such as excerpts from Dickens, A Christmas Carol.  And at our Festive Flower Workshops we are making table decorations from our stock of dried blooms, collected from our beautiful gardens over the past few months.
