We have enjoyed lots of celebrations this June – from the Jubilee, to special birthdays, to Mother Nature herself!
Jubilee celebrations at Newstead
We started early at Newstead, immersing ourselves in the run up to the long weekend! Ladies created fascinators to wear at our Garden Party. There was a fun Quiz and Royal games. Plus, lots of memorabilia from the Coronation and even original toys, such as The Queen’s golden carriage and horses.
We hosted a splendid Garden Party for The Queen’s Jubilee. Our beautiful garden was filled with love, laughter and lots of fun and we were blessed with wonderful sunshine. Our ladies and gentlemen were joined by family members across the generations. Street Party tables were laden with volovants, quiches, finger sandwiches, crisps, trifles, cupcakes and a home made Victorian Sandwich cake.
We also hosted a lovely Jubilee roast lunch with the special Queen’s Pudding for 2022; Lemon Swiss Roll Jubilee Trifle.
A huge thank you to Sarah, Mihaela and Zoli for all their hard work with catering and decorating for our event. A much needed get together after the last two years!
Our collaboration with Wye Knot School
Residents have enjoyed the sessions with Wye Knot Forest school so much, that we have continued then into June. Recently, as the sun shone brightly again, our session was held outdoors. We all had long sticks which we used to spear marshmallows and toast them on a camp fire. Plus a glass of fruit cider. Delicious!
For another fabulous and interactive activity session, Rose brought the outdoors indoors. The aromas from the flowers, the coffee and the turmeric were wonderful. Using all natural materials and techniques we crafted pictures for two big frames.
Music and baking
For World Day of Music we had a movement to music session in the morning and and a sing-along in the afternoon. Our bakers have also been making tray bakes of flapjacks. The powers of music and baking are such great sensory stimulation, helping with memory recall and to soothe the mind.
Birthday celebrations
It was wonderful for Elsie to celebrate her 99th birthday with all her family around her. Such a buzzing party in our garden, cake and champagne all round!
Joy also celebrated her birthday with the residents of Newstead, visits from her family, lots of flowers and cards and a birthday cake from our kitchen.
Plamnning ahead …
Somewhere over the rainbow! Our artists had a wonderful session imagining what life would look like over the rainbow. Such creativity. This will be our 2023 theme for the next Newstead Calendar.
